Are the JCW red brake calipers standard on the 2012 John Cooper works cars?

Same here. Haven't heard a single squeak yet, but more than enough dust.

What are JCW owners using for a lower dust and/or less squealing pad?

Less dust... Carbotech Bobcats. Not less squeal though.

will place my order for a 2012 JCW conv next week. do the drilled disks improve stopping? should I save the money for whiskey?

Drilled disks do improve cooling for track use and therefore increased stopping power under more extreme conditions than normal street use. I do not think there will be a difference if you do not track the car. The squeal disappears when the brakes reach a higher temp, at least on my 911 with track pads and also on my jcw.

Thanks, I'm interested in doing track days but not sure I can with the conv and the popup roll bars. I have a MCS 06 right now and my dealer says I get the first allocation in Nov. Hopefully I will get the JCW before the end of the year.

For track days, you're best bet is to use solid or slotted rotors. The drilled ones look really cool, but also tend to develop cracks between the holes when used at the track and the holes really just take away from total surface area that the pad has to grab. This may be a non-issue though, since the JCW brakes are so powerful for the size of the car, you might not be getting up to the temps that would develop cracks in them. The slotted ones help vent gasses as well and keep the pads clean (but will wear them down faster).

+1 on all of this. Get the slotted rotors, non-drilled.

thanks for the info on the drilled/solid. May not be an issue for track days as I'm getting a conv and I have heard the popup roll bar won't be allowed. Do you know other options for allowing me on a track like Thunderhill?

My brakes do not squeak. Lots of brake dust but then my R56 has the same issue. Black wheels help hide the dust.

The brakes are great and stop the car very, very well.

Did you find a way on track? You might have some luck with Hooked on Driving, their convertible policy includes "cars with stated production “factory rollover” protection", which I'm pretty sure includes MINIs. I think I've seen convertible MINIs at their events.

Hi Btwyx, I did run a MINI sponsored track day at Thunder Hills. No problem with the popup roll bars. I had a great time and the folks at TH were very nice. I had Way install a Forge IC and 19mm sway bar in Vegas at AMVIV. The intercooler gave the JCW a nice boost but I can't say I notice much diff with the larger sway bar. Next will probably be a new set of rims and some tires to replace the Run Flats. I am on the email list with HOD but haven't done anything with them. So all is good. Love having a 57 in San Diego where the weather is so nice. Take care, hope so meet you one of these days. cheers

Mine used to squeak (2011) but after I sprayed them with WD-40 it went away......

I'm joking... ok DON'T USE WD40 on your brakes.....

They squeak in reverse..

X2 when in reverse. Also adding cross drilled rotors will increase noise too.
