symptoms of a failing CVT gearbox?

Hi, just took over an Auto MCS JCW 2006 with 43,000 miles in mileage.

Its hard to describe but when i depress the accelerator hard, the counter revs to 3-4k rpm but it seems that the car's gear hasn't quite caught up. then i feel something like a soft thud and the car jerks forward.

Am quite concerned... any advise?

1st off, the auto tranny in an 06 MCS is not a CVT, it's a GA6F21WA.

And I was unaware they even had JCW option for the auto transmission equipped MINI's in the 1st Gen.

Checking the level of the transmission fluid would be my first reaction.

I think in 2002-2004 there were no automatic 'S' Coopers, but I've thought I have seen some 'S' and JCW autos in 05-06 range. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I own a 2003 MINI Cooper S. I was saying that I didn't think there was an option for an automatic CVT transmission on an "S"

after changing the transmission fluid, the shifts were smooth. But for prolonged driving in stop-start traffic, the problem of jerky shifts comes back again.
