Gabe's (bridger.us/mini) report on MINIusa's e-mail survey is very interesting. As a Marketing Manager (and as of next Monday a MINI owner), I'd love to see the data from that.

What were the questions.....and responses?

What are the demos behind the 'average' MINI owner? What common products do MINI owners have? Apple products, HDTV, digital camcorders, beautiful wife or husband? What car did your MINI replace? And on and on.

I'm yes to those....(Yes, it's a wife - inioway and it was a Jeep Wrangler).

Did you get to participate in the survery? Would you like to?

cuny,

I missed your thread. But just read it. Very good stuff.

Sadly, one of the things that market research does is pick the potental respondents from the 'universe'. It's kinda hard to pick yourself for those types of surveys.

However, any company would be foolish to ignore the input from their customers, potential customers, and those who looked but didn't buy.

One thing that I like to look for is the 'common product' that people who are my targets tend to have. For example, if my customers tend to have a Macintosh, then I know were to market to get to my potential customers.

Hey, market research is my vice.......when I'm not motoring!

also received and completed the 6gear/MINIUSA product survey a couple of weeks ago. It was very interesting as the survey makes an attempt to creat an accurate psychological profile of current MINI owners. The survey was sent out to a select group of owners via e-mail, people whom MINIUSA believes can provide valuable feedback and information regarding the future direction of the brand and its products. I am very proud to be part of that target group.

I also signed up for the 3 hour future product "workshop" which, if selected, will pay $200 for attending and participating. It is not clear to me however, when these workshops will take place and where (Locally, live webcast or otherwise).

In regard to the future body styles that MINI should offer in addition to the current 3 door hardtop and convertible models, I made a big push in the survey for MINI to resurrect the old "Countryman" or "Traveller" station wagon version in the current R50/53 platform. I think the next model critical for MINI's success as a standalone brand is to introduce a 3 and 5 door station wagon that retains all the prowess and fun of the current hardtop hatchback models in a more "Family" friendly package. A MINI wagon will be the absolute ultimate "Anti-SUV" and "Anti-minivan" statement. We for one, don't like neither type of these "popular" behemoths used by most families today. We want a MINI wagon and strongly believe many current and future MINI owners will love to have one in thier driveways alongside their MINIs.

i also touched on the mini of the future. not nesscarily a new mini though. they wanted a car to add to their mini line. my approach would be to make a jim kana car for the sport enthusiast. also a sport model for the young and active. a two seater that would be for the snow boarder, surfer, etc. all light upholstry in the back and very durable to the elements. sand, snow, water, camping, hiking and other things that might make a car very dirty. but easy to clean and fun with. the wheels are already in the right place and the hatch back lends itself for surfboards and other large items that could hang out the back. just my idea of a great add on to a already neat product. mcs brg moded

Dumb Survey.

Did you purchase a new vehicle in the last 2 years?
Yes
No

How strongly did you consider purchasing a MINI before deciding to buy another vehicle?
Strongly considered
Somewhat considered
Did not consider at all

If the answer to the first question is No, then the second question makes no sense.
Should have been "If answer to first question was yes, then answer How strongly did you consider purchasing a MINI before deciding to buy another vehicle?
Strongly considered
Somewhat considered
Did not consider at all

For me, the answer to question one was no, and the answer to question two would be "So Strongly Considered that I ordered a MCS"

My wife recieved a survey last Friday. It was directed not to Mini owners, but to people who bought Mini gear, but didn't own a mini (she bought me some stuff off their website). So, it was directed, I guess, to people who they thought considered buying a mini, but haven't yet or didn't buy.
Interesting survey, all done in Flash. It asked her to pick various products that fit her "lifestyle" such as cheap vs fancy cellphones. Also had her rate some fashions and then a long section on different prototype cars, SUVs and XUVs asking if she thought they were cool, trendy, ugly, expensive, etc.
Finally it asked if she wanted to be considered for a "workshop," which I'd assume would be a focus-group.
