R60 Switching Cold Air Intakes?
Switching Cold Air Intakes?
So I've had my VIP Cold Air Intake on for a few months now, and I love it. The kit, itself, is really well made, and it feels (and sounds) much better than stock.
I'm wondering, though, if the DoS CAI made for and working great the other turbo Minis will work as well on our Countryman S models. The intake fits, but I'm looking for more performance (and even more sound - crazy, right?).
After reading so many of the threads about that intake, I'm wondering if it would be worth the extra money to grab the DoS intake and see if it fares any better. Then I'd probably sell my R60 VIP intake on here if it was, indeed, better.
Anyone know if there would actually be a gain to be had over the VIP CAI that I have now?

With the VIP setup pulling hot air directly from the engine bay and the DOS pulling from air space behind the plastic bulkhead, theoretically the DOS would be more beneficial as it is pulling in cold air... it should be good for only a couple more hp over the VIP. As I have never seen either on a dyno, these are merely my personal opinions.
is this the CAI you are thinking about buying?

At the time I posted this, I foolishly believed that the DoS R56 would end up fitting our R60s, but no such luck.
As for the performance gains, the DoS has better temps up until a certain speed, and then it's a wash. I'll still keep my eye on DoS just because the sounds is... mmm...

I have an NM Engineering CIA that I will sell you. It was too loud for me. Might be just right for what you are looking for. I only kept it on the car for a few days so it is practiacally new. Performance, fit and look was great, just too loud for my taste.
The NM and VIP are really one-in-the-same. They're both open-filter elements, and thus sound the same. You should put that in the Market here - those things get eaten up quick!
Again, this is a pretty old thread. Since then (more than 3 months ago now) my car is pretty damned loud on the blow-off sound, along with the wide-open cutout.

i have been talking with Clint from Dos over the past several months about the CAI Dos intake for the countryman. He says it will not be pulling air from the bulkhead. It will have to be routed somewhere else. They are working on it know and it should become available next month. I've been holding off on purchasing a intake months to see what they are coming up with. I'm not sure about VIP or NM intakes that pulls in hot engine bay air " hot alabama summers" on a turbo motor. With the intake in the back of the motor, seems like it would suck hot air all the time. Not just when sitting in traffic.

At speed, the scoop brings in plenty of cool air to feed the VIP or NM. The VIP has an additional top cover/shield that can be easily modified to reduce heat soak.
I've not noticed any issues when IAT logging - still does its job on the hot summer days. Have to remember that they designed it for Arizona heat, and tested it thoroughly.
I've been keeping up with Clint for many months now, and it sounds like they're close to something. Sadly, though, it seems like it won't be an open filter like the R56, hence much less sound.

I agree if the Dos intake muffles the hypnotizing turbo and bov sound my air intake search/wait will probably continue. I contacted M2 and they said there was not enough interest in a intake for the countryman to produce anything. I looked and there appears to be room in the bulkhead for the Dos to pull air from inside there, i dont know what the issue could be.
