Electric Steering Pump

Any advice. My electric steering pump finally took a dump after only 130,000. I have been reading different forums. Apparently 57% on all 2001 - 2007 Mini owners have replaced one or more. There are many rebuilt pumps out there that are the newer design. A rebuilt runs $850 to $515. I found one site that offers a deal to rebuild the existing pump for about $250. The dealer want about $1300 and specialty shops around $1000. I have a shop manual and am about average on car repair. Has anyone attempted this repair?

Don't bother sending it off to be rebuilt, done that and it never worked out.

Just get a new one and you'll be fine.

I was going to order the pump from you tomorrow or Tuesday. What are the newer ZF pumps. Is yours the factory original style or a new and improved model? Either way I liked your quick response and pricing. Thanks

What the deal with all of the Mini's catching on fire due to steering pump failures. Google news had a story about it today.

Dont know if youve fixed this yet or not, but i got my reman from bbareman.com, has a lifetime warr, ive had it on there for about 3 weeks now, everything is still working like a champ...i think it was $415 with overnight shipping and that only because i didnt have a core to send in. They sent me one, i installed it, then sent the core back so it was a little more....with a lifetime warr though, completly worth it to me.

Don't know what model/year you have but:

There are a lot of DIY helpful threads here, but it helps to search on a web browser to catch them all.

Thanks. I ordered mine new and waited 10 weeks for delivery. I have a 2004 Mini Cooper S built after March. There is a difference pre march and after. Apparently that's why my car took so long. The after March ones are like the 05 model. I have raced mine for 7 years and have 6 championships. I have 130,000 miles on it. I do all of the old changes at 7500 miles. The belts and all fluids have always been maintained. The only issues are the hatch is not closing properly. That's a can of worms. The bunjie cord keeps it from popping open during auto cross events.

If you auto x why not go for the cf hatch? I would if it were practical at all. For the record though, bungie cord hatch closer is kind of a winner for me.
