Lowering Questions etc...R50 2003

Looking to lower my MINI, and had some questions:

How low can you lower a MINI before you need rear adjustable control arms?

Is it wise to use the stock struts, and just apply lowering springs, or go for a coilover setup?

What products do you suggest using?

Last, I noticed that during wet weather my rear end likes to slide out on tight turns, especially shifting from left to right/ vice versa. Is it a combination of performance tires/ suspension adjustments? This is an everyday driver, with 77,000 miles. Thank you!
