Installed Rennline door pulls

Well I installed the Rennline door pulls yesterday. http://www.rennline.com/RS-Style-Doo...ductinfo/DH24/ Even watching the install video, the first one took a while. You just aren't quite sure how much force, how far you can bend, how does it really hook up... The second one took about 10 mins...lol

Just a couple of thoughts, (and I did share them with Rennline). It's obvious that they cut the trim piece on a water jet. But the edges were very sharp. So sharp I feared that they would wear the pull strap very quickly. So I radiused the edges of the holes and slots with some sandpaper. Just took the edge off, no problems. (I bought the silver trim and red pull to match the rooster red color line. The silver looks ok, but last night I ordered some 3M c/f vinyl to see how that will look.

Anyway, it looks pretty cool, but come on now, $95? Really? I thought there would be more to it than what there was. A trim part, a nylon pull and a latch? Better hope the Chinese don't copy it, it'll sell for $20... Ok, maybe $30.

Hi Richard, Thanks for the feed back. Unfortunately when manufacturing in the US, we have to pay US wages, US material costs, US insurance, US equipment loans and US mortgages. That is why the cost is what it is, we have found that most of our customers don't care to support China's economy and are wiling to pay US prices to have a quality product that was produced in good old America. Maybe if more of the country felt this way or unemployment rate wouldn't be 10%.

No worries... Perhaps you could find some of those "Made in the USA" stickers. and include them... Then it's worth the price. lol

It is a nice well made product, and I'll see what the other Mini folks think at the local meet and greet tomorrow.

+1

I was debating back and forth on the pullies, but I'm pretty sure this comment pushed me over into the "buy" column!

It's ironic that you post a comment such as this on a forum that deals with cars that aren't even produced in the United States. Buyer preferences are not to blame. People, if they act rationally, will always choose what suits them financially. Our unemployment rate is the way it is because of poor and sometimes greedy decisions by major financial institutions which led to collapses in major sectors of the economy; the housing and lending markets being the major ones.

I can understand the frustration that people feel when they see manufacturing jobs leave overseas, but it's necessary for us as Americans if we want to enjoy our basic standard of living which is ranked in the top 5% globally.

My apologies for the rant, and for taking this off topic.

Maybe "Made in American" wasn't the correct response. I probably should have generalized a bit more. There are several countries out there that I respect in a major way regarding engineering and manufacturing. China simply isn't one of them for obvious reasons.

Ok, I went and ordered a 8x12" sample of C/F vinyl from www.metrorestyling.com. I pulled the trim parts and applied the c/f. It looks way better... It even sounds like c/f when you tap it...lol As an added bonus, where i turned the vinyl over the slot, it will further protect the nylon pull strap.

Wow I am totally stealing your idea. I've had my pulls in for about 3 months, and love them. I do sometimes worry about the nylon strap wearing. This is an awesome looking solution. Nice one

As I stated in the first post, I radiused the edges with sandpaper when I got them. They were very sharp. The vinyl will be just a bit more protection. Overall, I really happy with the mod.
