Vinyl Roof install

Sorry if this has been covered but I looked and didn't find it. I'm about to install a vinyl roof I got from Aesthetic Creations. I have a r56 with a sunroof. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. I'm curious what any of you have used for cleaning the roof and sunroof prior to installation, trimming the vinyl, removing trim around roof and antenna removal.

Thanks,

Todd

Is it already cut for the sunroof? I had a local guy come over to help him install an AC roof graphic for his sunroof car but it was not pre-cut! This is a HUGE problem! I had no idea how we were going to cut it as the sunroof opening has the soft weather seal all round it. I told him to return it to AC to have it cut.

In my mind the opening for the sunroof hole must be 1/8-1/4 larger than the hole in the sheet metal and the two pieces that go on the glass should be 1/8-1/4 smaller than the glass to make the install go easy.

Please let us know what the deal is with the graphic, pre-cut or not? As for cleaning use a grease cutting soap like dawn to get any wax off the roof.

The antenna is EASY to remove, it is like one large nut located above where the little square box to the rear of your sunroof, when I took mine off I did not have to remove the headliner or anything like that.

Roof trim, I don't know about.
Good luck to you.

Hmmmmm did we hijacked to the 1982 Ford LTD forum......Vinyl Top????....Really?......REALLY?......on a MINI?. I just looked twice to make sure this wan't the April Fools edition. I think adding a vinyl top to a Mini would do nothing but lower the value.

A vinyl roof graphic is what the OP is asking about.

SORRY SORRY SORRY. I totally misinterpreted that. What a relief. Just couldn't get my head around a "vinyl top" on a Mini.

Thanks for the reply. It is not pre-cut.

I'm installing the black Jack dual tone vinyl roof. I have seen a video of the install but it lacks some of the details.

As far as the edge goes I am planning on removing the "weather" strip around the edge of the roof as done in the video. I'm not too sure how to do this but I'm mechanically inclined so I am sure I can figure it out.

If the Antenna is easy enough to remove I will attempt that because I think it will provide the best installation.

Around the sunroof it looks like he cut the vinyl on both sides of the seal. I am going to have to be very careful on this not to damage the seal.

I will just give it a good healthy wash with dawn prior to installation tonight and dry it very well. Thanks for the tips and direction.

If it is not installed yet, once you clean the roof very good wipe it down with alcohol to remove any wax, soap residue etc... Trim vinyl once applied to the edge of the soft weather striping with a straight edge and you can actually tuck it under some of it as well as the edge around the outer edge of the roof. To take off the antenna you will need to lower tha back section of the headliner to expose the bolt holding it on...
