mini-t had a group buy for the harnesses. I don't know if she has any left.

Helmets - Most people go to motorcycle shops for them, but check SCCA regs if this is allowed. BMWCCA DEs will allow motorcycle helmets. You may get a deal on a Snell 95 helmet, but it will only be good for 1 more year in DEs. If you get the Snell 00, it will be good until 2010. Another place is Speedgear in Ala Moana, but htey are expensive. I got my helmet from Bell in Oakland.

keiki,

Thanks. I think I've seen the place. Will check into it.

You are my source for everything in Hawaii - BTW, thanks for hula class information.

erik,

What kind of helmet did you get? What were the SCCA rules regarding helmet?

Dirk

===>The above leaves no doubt. Keiki referred me/assisted me in getting discounts for: microfiber towels, her Aloha 500 CD, treats, helmet, digtal camera, fave restaurant, interisland package ). Well, it works for me. Good luck, DaKineMINI!!

You boys are always welcomed!

I'm sure cycle city is 1 of 1000 places you can get helmets...they may not be the cheapest, so shop around. I'll let my friend Kenji know that you MIGHT be coming in, just in case.

Good luck!

erik...maybe that's the business I should get into....personal shopper. I can be the local version of Consumer reports.

If I could figure out which helmet to get, I would go in tomorrow! Still looking at websites for styles and such. Thanks a lot for the help.

this is b on mini-t's computer.

she is reviewing some hong kong dvd's from ebay that i got that she feels is ****. sheesh. freeze me is an example. oh well, all harnesses are gone. randy may have one for sale, but it won't be as easy to use as the schroth ones.

helmets are a must have though. you do not want to use the loaner stinky ones that they have there.

anyways, good luck and hope to see more minis out there. b

Reviewing DVDs? Dang! My gf is willing to go to strip bars with me. Maybe she doesn't want me leaving with any "friends".

Beast....this must be a new gf...i've been reading a lot about her lately. If so, that's just in time for valentines day. Lucky her!

I met one of my old boyfriends at a strip bar. I was there for one of my best friend's bachelor's party. I can handle being at places like that, but what really freaks me out is the bathrooms. NASTY! Supposedly I went to one of those $0.25 peep show things in down town a long time ago, but aparently I was too drunk to remember. Eeekk!!!!

Not a new gf. The same one for the past 2 years. I screwed up and haven't ordered flowers yet. I've tried to find those lillies she wants, but the florists are concentrating on roses since it has the greatest profit. Maybe I'll call Pink Flamingo. Didn't make dinner reservations either.

Lucky for me she's cool about that stuff.

You still looking for a job? PM me.

Eh, DaKine

Don't know of any local source of the Schroth harness. Might check with any of the NAM vendors.
If you need/want a harness right away, PM me. I have 2 different harnesses: DEIST 3" 4-point harness and a TRW 4-point cam lock harness.

I did some "slight " modifications to make it fit without drilling but using existing mountings and hardware.

The Schroth is so much easier to install because it uses existing mounting points

As for helmets, as suggested, your favorite motorcycle shop should have it. Should be SNELL 00 or rating of "M" (motorcycle) or "SA" (special application ie. **race**)

depending on how many more 808-ers decide to regularly come out to auto-x and wanna get schroth harnesses (which happen to be legal for everyday driving , i may do another group buy in the near future. i'll send out more info via 808-motoring.

thanks!

If anyone wants to see or try out the schroth harnesses for driver and front passenger I have them with shoulder pads (two for each belt set) and plastic belt end pulls ($10 for four per belt ) which are extras.
Just let me know and I will bring them at the next event.
It's easy to put them on- takes about 1-2 minutes.
Really holds you snugly in place for track and autocross.

minihune & mini-t thanks for the offer to check-out the harness.

What kind of helmet do you folks have? I know what erik808 has. Does anyone use an open face? I am thinking about one of those hybrid helmets (like a full face without the faceshield but with a visor) so I have some protection if I should eat it bad - I don't care to get facialized by the airbag.

I have a full face Bell, but am thinking about getting an open face helmet. Why? Because the open face gives greater peripheral vision and is a little more comfortable. FYI The majority of instructors for BMW CCH DEs use an open face helmet. They also use these when racing on the mainland.

Open face vs full face helmets and pics

From http://www.solotime.com/default.asp?page=1692
Example of HJC open face M2000 rated for about $85

Or HJC closed face M2000 from about $129 for black or white

UNDERSTANDING HELMET RATINGS

There are three primary helmet ratings: Snell, ANSI and DOT.* The standards are set to provide acceptable levels of head protection in the event of an accident.*

Snell rated helmets can be divided into Special Application (SA) and Motorcycle (M) ratings.* The impact protection for these two ratings are generally similar.* SA helmets are specifically designed to meet the requirements of an individual who is restrained within a* motor vehicle and needs flammability and sharp object impact protection.* M helmets are designed to protect individuals who are not restrained and* may come in contact with many different shaped objects.

Many clubs will accept either the Snell M or SA standard for autocross activities and non-racing track events.* Some clubs will accept the ANSI or DOT ratings. High speed racing events generally require the Snell SA rating.* Check with your club on their requirements and rating year.

Basic autocross M2000 helmet
G-force 650 in white or black for $99.99

Basic Pyrotech SA2000 closed face helmet from $268
