Hasn't been driven in a long time.

Hi All,

I'm new here, so if I do something I shouldn't have ought to have done don't hesitate to let me know.

Anyhow, I'll attempt to be as concise as I can in regards to this subject, but it's still going to be a bit long due to a variety of factors I feel are important to include.

My mother, who lived in Maryland, purchased a 2002 Mini when they first became available. She didn't drive it too often as she had another car at the time, plus she was retired. She passed away 2.5 years ago, and the car, at that time, hadn't been driven for at least a year. We encountered some estate difficulties and as a result we are only now able to sell anything from the estate. My daughter is considering purchasing the Mini from the estate. There are reasons why I would like her to do so, but we also have concerns as I will detail below.

I'm only going to list two of my reasons why I'd like my daughter to have the car; one is sentimental, and the other I'd describe as practical. The sentimental reason is that it was her grandmother's car; the practical reason is that it only has 4100 miles on it (and no that's not a typo).

The concerns, as you might imagine, have to due with the amount of time the car has not been run. I don't know a whole lot about the Minis, but I believe this is a basic model, standard transmission, and according to my sister the only extras were a cold weather package and Lojack.

At the time of Mom's death there was no room in her garage for the car, so it remained where she'd parked it, in the driveway. We hadn't thought much of that at the time as we assumed that it would be sold within months, not years. I finally made a trip to her home over the summer and cleared out the garage and moved the car inside.

My sister, who is the executor, intends to have the car towed, I assume to the local dealer, where it will be checked over, detailed, battery replaced, and possibly fluids replaced.

Now I realize that without seeing the car any comments or advise anyone might offer isn't going to be much more than an educated guess, but that's more than I have right now. So in weighing the low miles against the car sitting outdoors, and not run, for three to four years, is my daughter likely to encounter a lot of problem should she buy this car?

I apologize for the lengthy post, and I also that you in advance for reading it.

Steve
