I agree. I'm not really a fan thus the reason for stock exhaust on our cars.

I have 6500 miles on my 2011 Clubman S. I recently noticed that the Pop noise (backfire) is gone during "S" mode. Anyone else experience this. The only difference is that the weather is cooler now a days in San Francisco 40 to 60 f. Did my first oil change with OEM Mini Oil and filter at 5000 miles. It was firing around the 2200 rpm range while decelerating. Any clue??
Thank you

Must be a British thing. Triumph motorcycles do it too.

It works only when the Sport Button is engaged. It won't pop until the engine is up to operating temperature (after about two miles of driving.) You can make the pop sound by downshifting to slow the car down.

Aftermarket exhaust + freeway underpass + pop n' burble + imagination = driving over the world's largest sheet of bubble wrap.

I've had it pop without the sport button on a few times. Mostly when upshifting from 2nd to 3rd and without pushing the throttle particularly hard after engaging 3rd.
