Stealth plate mount
Stealth plate mount
My '11 MCS is my daily driver. California is a front plate state and I think the plate looks terrible on my MINI, not to mention my two Corvettes. I have acquiesced on the wife's Vette and my Hummer and put the front plates on those but have resisted putting it on my weekend Vette since I only take it out for pleasure cruises occassionally.
I needed to do something on the MCS as I got a fix-it ticket a week ago along with one to pull the front driver and passenger window tint off. The trooper stopped me only for those two infractions - they've been working the Laguna Hills area of the 5 for the past few weeks pulling lots of commuters over during morning and evening commutes.
Anyway, I had the tint pulled off and then came up with this adaptation of a Corvette mod I had sitting around since I had decided not to mount it on my Vette for the time being. It adapted easily to the MINI and actually even fits better than on the Vette due to the nice flat under-surface the MCS front fascia provides for the mechanism. I had a state trooper inspect and sign off on the tint and the plate mount Friday. Here's a short video of the plate mount (sorry - iPhone quality vid).

NICE !!!!!!!! 007 lives. Like that solution, out here in MD the plate ***** do the same thing so for my 19 year old pristine 92 Grand Prix I mounted a bracket with arms way way underneath the bumper, barely visible, I am not drilling holes in the perfect bumper of a car that lived the first 16 yrs of its life in PA (1 plate only).
Now, how long will it be before these tards grow up and stop insisting on this front plate stupidity so car manufs can make the nose smooth and chiselled and dont have to leave a 5x8 flat spot to positively ruin the aerodynamics?

I've seen this before a few times, there is a 3rd party mini accessories website that sells the kits but I forgot which one. I too live in a front-plate state (NY) and luckily have not been stopped ::knocks on wood:: I have the M7 Front splitter and don't know how this device would work/look with it.. :(
Price has gone up quite a bit since I bought mine last Jan. I was thinking of buying a replacement but will look elsewhere for a better price now.
