Outmotoring Short Antenna question
Outmotoring Short Antenna question
Hey everyone,
Just received my Outmotoring stubby antenna in the mail, and when I opened it I was quite surprised with what I found. It's solid metal....not rubberized like I was expecting.
Has anyone ordered this part/use it on their car now? Does the metal scratch anything on the car? I'm fairly sure the antenna base it screws into is rubberized, so I don't think it would scratch that. But I am just curious.
It's glossy black, which will go well with my new midnight black MCS that's coming in...but I certainly don't want to take a chance to scratch a brand new paint job.

Yes it is normal for it to be metal, almost all aftermarket antennas are metal. The only one that isn't is the OEM MINI sport antenna, but it cost more.
I couldn't remember what the base of the antenna was made of. My sister's BMW has the shark fin antenna and it's just painted like the rest of the car. Metal on paint isn't a good combo...so I was just making sure

Maybe it's just me...but where does one get stuff plasti-dipped? Is it something you can go out and buy and do yourself? Or can most paint shops do it for you?
one goes to any decent hardware store - even Lowes or Home Despots - and buys a can of Plasti-dip

the intended use is to actually dip ... the product was originally aimed at tool handles and you'd dip into the can. 'course when the can gets low.... you can brush this stuff and there are few brush marks cuz it sort of flows ... but also available in spray
nice thing is, if you screw up you can (usually) peel it off and start over
