Any chance of this being the 3rd Gen engine?

This is an impressive engine that rivals the new Golf R motor. Love imagining this in our lighter chassis with 240 hp and 260 ft lbs torque.

I doubt it.
I remember seeing a thread on MINI2.com stating that MINI was looking at maybe going from a 4-cylinder to a 3-cylinder engine. Can't remember if it was for all models or only for Justas and maybe only in Europe.
Am at work now and don't have the time to look for that thread.
I sure hope they stay with a 4-cyl engine.

I'm sure the engineers would limit torque in the first couple of gears like Mazda did with the MazdaSpeed3, not a big deal.

The third Generation MINI [interanl name F56] is due in 2013. I have not opened the link to the Motoringfiel article but if memory serves, the Justa and the S will be 3 cylinder, BMW designed engine BUT more powerful and a vast improvement in gas mileage. I also remember reading the JCW F56 will remain a 4 clylinder but I am not usre if it is retaining the Prince engine or a detuned BMW engine. This is off memeory so if someone has better info please post it.. Also the R58 and R59 will still be built on the R57 platform even after the F56 debuts but will probably have a shortened build life before itr is redesigned.
I have heard conflicting reports that the Rocketman was given a green light but then I heard it was killed. Nor sure on that. Also the Paceman was given a green light and will debut in 2014 as a performance orientated vehicle and will have dual suicide doors like the redesigned Clubman.
More info than you bargained for I guess. This is all rumors from Motoring File [almost always right on target] and I am going off memory. If anyione knows anything different, let me know

- but they would have to turn it 90 degrees and do a bit of re-engineering.
