225/45/15 Hoosier on AK Monza 15"????
Not sure I've heard of anyone running that exact setup. I did alot of research though and I planned to put 225/45 15 'R' compound tire on a 15x7 wheel after my 205/50 15 Azenis tires get worn out. I know dpayne1 has put 225/50 15 BFG tire without rubbing on 15x7 kosei wheels which should have an offset of 38. I bought Team Dynamics 15x7 with a 40et. More than 40 offset and I think you risk rubbing the shock with a 225. Normal rubbing of the outer fender is usually at the 2:00 position on the rear but you have some benifit running 225/45 because the entire tire diameter is less arount 1.2inches less and that give a signifigant amout of clearance in iteself. I would recomment you get a 15x7 wheel instead of a 15x6.5 if you don't already have the Monza wheels yet. 225 on a 6.5 wheel is a little pinched. Even with a 205 tire a 7inch wide wheel is ideal for a straighter sidewall. If you get a 45et wheel and it rubs you can allway's add a 5mm spacer to push it out further to 40. But with dpayne1's configuration at 38et not rubbing indicates that may be ideal.
To add to Bisch question. Anyone know how long an "R" compound tire will last for Autox and track day's. I have know idea if they are good for 2 Autox days or 10. What's the typical time they have lasted?

>>I thought the rubbing was on the outside edge?
Isn't that what I said? "Normal rubbing of the outer fender is usually at the 2:00 position"
But if you use too high an offset, and a much wider tire you may start rubbing the shock/spring on the inside of the wheel and need to push it further out by adding a spacer. I think when your dealing with a 225 tire your getting close on both sides and you may need to adjust a few mm either way to prevent rubbing. You also have to remember that the smaller the wheel diameter wheel you use the closer you get to the front shock/strut because it angles in to the car. I measured my front wheel clearance with my 15x7 wheels and 40 offset to be 1.25 " at the inside edge of the rim where the 7" diameter is measured from. A 225/45 Hoosier tire is 9.3" wide (9.3-7)/2 =1.15" giving me .1 clearance. I will still get more because of the shock angle and the fact that the max width of the tire is mid or closer to the top of the tire and not at the rim. But I don't think a 45et wheel would work without a 5mm spacer to prevent shock/spring rubbing. What I have no idea on is if it will rub the outside fender. But the reduced overall diameter of the 225/15 50 should give alot more clearance with the fenders and allow more upward travel before rubbing the fender.

Thanks for the info Super.
I think I'll get two tires and mount 'em up to see if they rub. If they rub under compression, then I'll use them as my drag strip tires...if they work I'll just get two more.

Bisch,
Please let us know if the rub or not. Many people have been asking the same question including me. I had to measure and guess but I want to know what actually happens. So let us know, and pictures would be nice too!
