Ordered Car on Friday, have a few questions.

Hey all,

I ordered my BRG S With Winter / Sport / Conv / Tech Nav / Prem, hot choco seats and Oak dash. I hope it comes out with a real nice classic look.

Anyway, here are a few questions.

Is it DARK in the car when you open the doors, or turn off the light at night? I see only the 2 lights up in the front, and nothing in the center. I am coming from an Altima that has like 6 lights (overkill).

How do people take care of the top? Is it cold as crap in the winter? (live in DC area, so not a lot of snow, but cold).

Who has a spare tire, after my 4 hour test drive it is clear that the run-flats are stiff as heck. So when they are done, I do not think I am going to replace them. I need to find a decent way to get a spare in/on the car.

Thank you for the advice. I will be honest, I am losing sleep waiting for this car.

It is dark in the back as you have the center front light, the reading lights up front, and the front floor lighting.

On top care, I have not done anything yet. There are some treatments that can help preserve the fabric. I don't aggressively scrub it and generally rinse it without putting a lot of soap on the fabric.

I had my run flats removed by the dealer before I took delivery. I sold the run flats (in this area -Atlanta- you can get about $100 bucks each if you want to move them quickly). I installed 215 Michelin Pilot Sport Plus A/S tires. They are about $180 each. Wonderful ride, super grip wet and dry, quiet but with sharp turn in and a 45k tread life warranty. I drive aggressively and expect to get 20k miles on them but if you rotate and balance they will prorate the warranty. I initially had 205-17-45 (original size on mine). When I bought a second set in went to 215's. They grip even better and I have no rubbing.

I carry a compressor and slime with no spare. You can get a small spare that will fit in the back seat for trips but the S has a large muffler that sits in the area used as spare storage on non S MINIs.

You've gonna love your MINI!

Thanks! Does the good folks at BMW at least give me a jack and whatnot to pull a tire off if I need to? I do take long trips from time to time and was looking for a "Just in case" when I am a long way from home.

Compressor and Fix-a-flat may be a good route too, thanks!

My only fear with this car is the seat. Because it is an S it has the high walls on the side, and my butt is not "British" is is a little more American. Hope those side bolsters give a little over time.

Mine has a jack. It also has lug nut locks which I plan on eliminating. I had the keyed insert on mine come loose on one. Kind of defeats the purpose of a lug nut when you can't remove it. I'll take my chances on wheel theft.

BTW I don't know if packages have changed but my favorite option with the convertible is the butt warmers!! They really extend the top down temp range. If you didn't get them, they were the best $500 I spent on mine.

Its funny, with the 16in wheels the runflats don't bother me.

I have another question as I panic a little. My new car has the all the packages, Winter, Tech, Sport, Premium and Connect with Nav. Does that have SAT radio? I do not see it listed in the list.

I'd check the configurator. In 2009, the satellite radio was optional...even if you got the HiDef radio. Do check to be sure.

Your car should have 1 year free Sirius Satellite radio. Mine came with it standard - and a year's worth is a great deal. My 2011 Subaru only came with 90 days XM.
