is it me or is the wait for your MINI pure torture?
Hi all,
I ordered my MCS CR/W with bonnet stripes, Cold & Premium package from Patrick MINI just last week. Was told the arrival date would be the 2nd or 3rd week in March. I can't wait to see her... but the time between now and then seems awfully long. Any tips on how to kill the time?
Best,
carrie

No its not you....many, many people here have waited what seems an eternity for their MINI's. It's pretty crazy, but the time does pass. My recommendations: 1) hang out here (...or on related web sites) all you can and ask plenty of questions; 2) Get into a "Can't Wait For..." thread; 3) Learn all you care to about Mini heritage...you'll love the car all the more; 4) pick a name for your MINI; 5) identify mods you want installed immediately (...if you haven't already. Things like a clear bra come to mind). Lastly, try to investigate the local MINI scene. As I said, many MINI owners waited for their cars so all you have to say is, "I'm waiting for my MINI to arrive" and they'll generally know EXACTLY what you mean.
MINI owners are, on the whole, pretty cool. Remember...your MINI will be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the MINI group, MINIChiGirl!!
I'll add to jds' suggestions ... find the links on this website to the boats that float our precious cargo from England to New Jersey. We had fun for a couple of weeks tracking the boat. And, then we could figure after the Aida docked in NJ how many days it would be until JoeGreen, our MINI, arrived at Patrick.
Also, JOIN the Chicago MINI Motoring Club! The application is at http://www.bridger.us/mini. The dues are reasonable, the members are great fun and we've had really great times MINI-ing around the city and country.
PM me if you want to know more about your MINI wait!!

Yes it is total torture! And I only had to wait 2 weeks. I pretty much did everything above to kill the time. It is well worth the wait! Tomorrow I will have had my car for one week. The next torture is the break-in miles! I am almost half way through it.
I've been waiting and waiting and waiting since January 7. Time has passed quickly by reading and rereading the owner's manual downloaded from the Owners Lounge. Scope out all the neat space making stuff the vendors have - things like center arm rests with storeage, glove box dividers and the thing you put in the center column, then there is a parcel shelf. Mod stuff galore from wheels and tires to some very sophisticated stuff like a Quaife LSD and ECU pumper uppers, and then there are shifter ***** and . . . You get the idea; lots of goodies and eye candy on the internet drool over.
Plan a few day trips with other Mini owners. Start a lottery with your friends for the first ride. Most of all enjoy the anticipation and the wonders of discovering what Mini is.

Aw, thanks you guys for all the support, suggestions, and empathy. It's like the second a soon-to-be MINI owner mentions "the wait," there's some kind of instant recognition of the agony...... I have to admit as frustrating as the wait is (production is to estimated to be complete on 2/9 and then I have to wait for transport, en route shipping, VDC, and THEN at-the-dealer stage), it's been pretty fun to look into the various threads, owner experiences, and possibilities of how to make my MINI even better.... thanks for everyone's welcomes and kindness.
Oh man, I got sooo lucky with my MCS. Would have drove (motored) me nuts if I had to wait along time for my MINI. I decieded one night that I was going to buy a MINI. Spec'd out what I wanted on the Internet. Called the local dealer the next morning and found out they just got there allocation the day before and had 10 MCS's on the lot. Drove there and they had the exact color/options I wanted. Motored it home that day.

That is a stroke of luck. Good job.
minichigirl,
Aloha and welcome to NAM.
There is plenty to see and read on NAM so take your pick of various forums and topics.
Must things?
Read about the various appearance mods that people do- many pictures to help as well.
Read about what events are in your geographic area- Regional and club forums
Post questions about things you want to know about or search for previous threads dealing with those topics.
Have fun.
The time will pass quickly. At least it is not 4-6 months like in my area or 10+ months like in Southern Calif.

The wait is torture, and yet kinda fun (which is a odd concept since I am not into chains & whips).
My garage has been rearranged so my MCS will fit in with my motorcycles. Storage space has been added so the garage floor is clear side wall to side wall. This will allow my wife and I to pull both cars closer to the walls to ensure no door ding possibility at home.
I am also evaluating which performance mods I will do. Lot to do while one waits, and waits and waits. One of my biggest fears is that of driving my friends nuts talking about a car I do not even own yet. They keep asking if I will give them a ride when I get the MCS. I tell them only if they wear "Attends or Depends".

Welcome to NAM. The wait is easier when you spend it online.
I placed my order on March 4 and took delivery on August 30. That was a long 25 weeks.
You've got time to buy a comfy long-sleeve NAM shirt, a hat, and a calendar. Use the calendar to count down the days (just click on the link to the NAM store on the home page).
Enjoy the wait; it is worth it.

The wait is long yet it has been fun and informative as I watch and learn about the dance of the MINI. From ordering, through production, shipping, and now waiting at the NEAT docks for a trip through the VPC. Read the manual a few times, watched the production video as well and am learning all I can about the heart beat of the new MINI.
Did order a red shift **** and an insert for my hand made wooden **** - its an attitude adjustment thing. Dusted off an old crash helmet and dug out some old metric tools.
The One Click has been ordered and am now researching wheels and tires. The Quaife LSD is also on the soon to be acquired list. I am still searching for the cloaking device or some other stealth measures, I'll even seetle for a grill mounted laser - anything to escape the awful SoCal drivers or turn them into dust.
I have a growing list of friends wanting the first ride! Best offer gets the first ride! They are all very creative people and working hard to come up with something unique.
The short of it all is that patience will be rewarded.

asodestrom,
" You can read the April thread from start to finish, all 138 pages of it "
Maybe I'm just plain blind, but can you tell me (out of sick curiosity and lots of time on my hands), where I can find that thread?
Thanks -
carrie
