MPG Readout on Tach Issue

Hello All,
Recently I purchased a 2002 MINI COOPER S with 87k miles. Got a great deal on it and love wrenching so I'm happy . Anywho, one thing I can't figure out is what is going on with my MPG computer readout on the tach. The average and instant MPGs are both having this issue.

When I first test drove the car both were frozen (17.9 on instant and 19 on average). I held the computer readout button down and reset both and they seemed to be working flawlessly after that. Then after about 5 minutes of driving I realized the readings where updating slower and slower. Then about 20 minutes after the reset they were both frozen again.

The temperature portion of the readout seems to be working ok but not sure about the range as I'm sure it's running off the same info the average and instant MPGs are running off of.

I did a full ECU reset when I got home but it's still doing this. Working flawlessly immediately after the reset then progressively updating slower and slower till its frozen.

Has anyone encountered this issue? Any solution? I searched around this site and a few other owners sites with no luck. Anyhelp would be GREATLY appreciated.
