Navigating songs on iPod with iPod connection kit

So my problem is this.... I have a 2011 MINI with the iPod connection kit. My iPod has about 7000 songs on it. It is a huge pain to have to go to Artist, then scan through the 100s of artist on there. Is there a way to search for an artist alphabetically? It is very frustrating to have to keep scanning for a few minutes while driving a stick in traffic!

I could never find a way to do that. I first started using playlists to put my most frequently played artists, but even that got to be too much to scroll through. In all honesty, I just ditched the iPod connection kit and hook my iPhone up directly and use that to access my music.

I think I remember someone saying about making a playlist for each letter of the alphabet and having only those artist in it. So a playlist A with all artists that start with an A.
