Keyfob Window/Sunroof Issue

I'm hoping some of you might have heard of this. So I've been having issues on and off with the windows and the sunroof opening on their own. Well today of all days it's gone crazy. I get out of the car and the windows go down and sunroof opens. I put the key back in, put them up, and they go back down after I pull the key again. I also hear the locks working on their own, as if I'm constantly hitting the keyfob or something. I've tried both fobs and it's still happening.

You need to program your key fob....??? However I am a newbie here and just got my 2011 MINI S so hopefully one of the GURUS will chime in on this topic......

Meh, I checked the manual and tried the "programming", but it doesn't seem to be an option. So I got out of it, turned off the car and the windows and sunroof didn't go down. Still when I pulled the keyfob out I noticed the lights didn't turn on. So I poppped it back in to check for that and no luck. Then of course when I pulled the keyfob out again the windows went down and the sunroof opened up again.

I love the car, but the little niggly **** is pissing me off. I won't be in the mood for any bs at the dealership tomorrow either.

I would suspect you key fob is either defective or the battery might need replacing. It is a standard feature of the fob that if you unlock and then hold the lock button near the car that the windows will roll down and the sunroof will open.

I'd get to a dealer ASAP.

Has nothing to do with the FOB. There are a few issues that are related to this problem. 1. Moisture in the doors causes a short in the wire harness, dealer puts grease in the harness to insulate it. 2. Faulty door lock motor, many people have had this replaced. 3. And a software update for car, BMW has made a bunch of tweaks to help the windows and this issue in the FRM and CAS modules.

If you are under warranty, take it back to the dealer.

+1

Many many problems with windows and locks, Many of them programing issues that gets screwed up for some reason. Usually means a Dealer Reprogram of car.

And at the OP it would really be nice if you could put your car details in your signature. That way we now automatically what car year and possible options you have.

Well definitely a better dealer experience this time around. I'll get to that in a minute.

-As for the squeaky driver's side issue, the invoice says they removed the outer window trim seal and lubed the window regulator as necessary. It still made the noise so they replaced the driver's side door latch.
-As for the windows/sunroof issue, they replaced the driver's door latch.
-As for the past issues, the squeaky back passenger side seat, it says they road tested it and could hear some noise from the rear seat. Don't know that I believe that as it's pretty intermittent and I haven't heard it in a few weeks. Anyway, they lubed the seat latches (which I suggested after reading here and told them they'd done it in the past). Says they still heard noise and found the rear seat buckles can cause rattling (which I'd never heard/noticed) and they latched the loose buckles "for now." Anyway, I'm glad they addressed this without making me recreate it like last time.
-Another past issue has been my pretty consistently rattling tachometer. They ordered a new one and they'll replace it next week. Only thing I'm just noticing is that it says the tachometer has an internal rattle. I'm not so sure it's an internal rattle, but it happens at 2000 rpms pretty consistently. So it might just be a vibration issue. Either way I'm happy for now that they ordered a new one and again didn't make me try and reproduce it.

On a side note they give me a 2011 Justa Clubman. Not a fan of some of the changes. Interior looked/felt cheaper with a lot of the black parts as opposed to the silver (and I mean silver plastic) parts in my car.

Anyway, hope the above helps if anybody ever has the same issues. I know the squeaky back seat and tachometer are issues I've read about here before.

Well they replaced the Tach the other day. Looks like an 11 tach because the inside of it isn't the plastic silver but the plastic black. It looks fine and more importantly NO RATTLE! The back seat hasn't squeeked either in the past week and a half since the first trip to the dealer.

I did notice a sound that sounded like the seatbelt (the part that gets stuck in) was hitting against glass or a door. A glass "clinking" sound. They checked it out but I don't think they noticed anything. The seatbelts were all plugged in when I picked it up the other day. I didn't notice it again straight away, but when I undid the passenger side seatbelt I did. I only get it over really bumpy road though.

I can't tell you though how great it is to have the car free and clear of that squeek and rattle. It may sound crazy, but I'd get anxiety every time I heard them. I love my car though and when you knew what you wanted for years and saved up for years to buy it outright I suppose that makes sense.

Anyway, thanks for the help guys and hopefully the info in this thread can help others.
