Sunroof and connected question

I've tried to search and haven't seen the answer on these.

On the sunroof, is there a cover or shade that you can close on the glass panes to block the sun/light? If not, has anyone tinted the sunroof to keep the interior from getting too hot or burning your head when driving?

On connected, I recall reading somewhere that you can adjust some settings. Like set the turn signal to 3blinks when tapped vs having to hold it down and to set items like opening windows and sunroof when holding unlock on the key fob. Does this only work with connected, or do non-connected (or is it unconnected?) cars also have the ability to change these types of settings?

Thanks as I'm hoping to order soon if I can get connected and an auto transmission!!!

There is only a mesh that slides over the window its not blacked out. I have seen an aftermarket "sunshade" that you can put in it. I wondered about how much the light would bug me as well, but still waiting for my car to be delivered.

The mesh helps a little but I don't drive much during the afternoon hours so the sun hasn't really bothered me as much. I do plan on tinting the roof with limo tint when I get the chance.

Sunroof and car programming

Sunroof: There is no built in opaque shade like you may be thinking from many other cars, or aftermarket equivalent that works seamlessly. Need to tint it if you want to cut back on sun/heat. Easily done.

Connected: the items you mention have nothing to do w/ Connected. They are standard Mini programming you would find on any model.

Tinted the sunroof. Really helps keep the interior cool.

Thanks for the info. Sound like i can tint the roof as dark as needed to keep things cool. Good to know there's a mesh thingy at least.

Thanks also for letting me know about the other options not being tied to connected. If I may ask, what's the interface to alter some of the driving options like door lock, air out the car by holding down unlock on the fob, etc. Is it the radio or some obscure combination of holding down buttons like you would to set a clock?

Definitely depends on where you live. Base your decision on that. On my Clubman, I tinted the sunroof as black as they could get it (MUCH, MUCH darker than my windows), and when the sun is up, I don't think it does much good... to the point that I just ordered my Countryman without the sunroof. It gets blazing hot in there, and at certain times of the day the top of my head gets really hot.

Again, it's a personal preference based on where you live. I live in a hot climate with year-round sunshine. If I lived somewhere else, I may have gotten the sunroof again.

I did see somewhere online where you could get some sort of sunshades to stick up there, but they looked cheap, and I didn't like the idea of having to stick each one of them up there every time I got in/out of the car.

Mine is in the connect/nav. Otherwise, it should be in the light control stalk. There is a book in the glove box that tells you all about it.

If you don't have the specific book for your car, you can download a reasonable copy in the Owner's Lounge.

The end button on the left stalk will cycle through the various options available (average speed, estimated range left, average mpg, current mpg, and set info). The set info allows you to dive deeper into the things you mentioned. If your anxious I recommend going to download the PDF of the users manual if you don't already have one.

Side note, you set it per key fob. So if it is a shared car you can set your preferences different from another.

Holding down the unlock button on the key fob does open all windows and pops up the sunroof on non connect/nav Countryman.

Love doing that for friends that see my Countryman for the first time.

I have connect with Nav, in the setting menu setting you can set 1 or 3 blinks, set daytime driving lights, lock doors, "Dong sound" etc.

Thanks for the tip! I wish I was in the position where I could just go into the garage and pull out the manual, but alas, I'm stuck with pre-order "we think if you order now it should be here by the end of the year (or 3 months)" inconsistency from the dealers I've been in contact with.

Thanks! Sounds like connected gives you a fancier interface while non-connected allows a method via signal stalk. I appreciate your info.
