Engine warning light on at 14k miles

Engine warning light on when I start the car this morning.. Not flashing but just on. The owner manual says to drive at moderate speed, be careful and bring it in soon. I do notice on my exhaust pipes are lined with black.

I have tomorrow to drive to work (about 50 Miles mostly on freeway)then I will be on vacation for 2 weeks. I booked an appointment the day after I come back so i will have about 50 more miles before bringing it to service.

Guy at Crevier said that would be fine.

What do you think? Is this safe? Will I damage the engine more? I checked the dip stick and there is oil. I checked the coolant and there is plenty. Don't know how to check anything else.

If you have an Auto Zone or the like they will scan your car for codes (it's free) and then you will be able to make a judgement call.Just my.02.

Start with checking the simple things like gas cap secure with a click, all the visible turbo pipes secure, no air intake blockages...did it sniff some dirty air the night/day before like a nasty diesel PU...just the simple things if it seems to be running alright.

Brought it in a 7 A.M to have a quick check. He added 1 quart of engine oil and ordered an air mass sensor.

He said it is not an emergency so i can still continue driving. Will bring in after my vacation

When I am at the light with the engine running, I am hearing sounds. Don't know where it comes from.
