Noob Exhaust Questions.

I've noticed my Ontario-raised Cooper is showing rust on her exhaust. It's not catastrophic but I want a new one anyway, and this is a good excuse. I'm leaning towards the Megan Racing cat-back. I'd like to go all out and get the Header as well in the future. What's involved in installing that? Do I need to get a shop to cut out the Cat section of the pipe and weld in mine? Is that an involved process? Will a tune be necessary afterwards, and is a remote tune an option? RMW?

Any input/suggestions/etc would be great.

Thanks!

I installed a OBX header and Magnaflow Cat Back Exhaust.
No problems on installation.
Didn't need tune, ran like scat.
You will be heard!

Is the Magnaflow louder than the Megan? I don't want to sound ricer-loud or have a ton of highway drone. Did you feel a gain in torque/horsepower after install or is it mostly just for sound?

As for the install, did you weld in the cat? Or go catless and throw codes?

Thanks for the info.

I did not have to do any welding.
I installed header with cat for just that reason, did not want codes tossed at me.
Installation for complete system was about 3 hours and I wasn't pushing it.
I went with Magnaflow for 2 reasons, performance and construction quality.
Performance is spot on.
Feel a stronger pull.
System is a little loud.
I really don't know what "rice" sounds like but I know that I get some looks when I go by.
There is a exhaust drone when driving.
To me, it is fine.
A performance car should be heard.
The construction of Magnaflow is beautiful.
All SS, great welds.
Bolts right up.
Probally 15 lbs lighter than OEM system.

Thanks very much, this is very helpful! I didn't realize you could get headers with an existing cat, that's god to know. I don't mind a louder sound, I just don't want that obnoxious tinny sound I hear from the beat up 90s Civics with bad tint and wings.

It is not a tinny noise.
It is a very pleaseant exhaust note that says there is some power here.
Great flow design.
2 1/2" dia.
4" dia rear tip.
