Part # for 2011 oil filter

Does anyone have the part number for the oil filter for the 2011 Cooper S? I went by the dealer today to get oil/filter for mine since it just ticked over 5k.

I want to make sure the part I have is the one needed. I would hate to have my tech get all in there an find out its the wrong one...

15K miles is way too long for a first oil change even with the synthetic these cars use. I wouldn't go more than 5K or 6K before my first oil change.

Yeah. You will still get the free ones from the dealer but all they will do is follow Mini's official recommendations and go by what the onboard computer says, or at a 1 year interval.

But a lot of people don't like to wait that long so they will pay for an oil change at about the halfway point, not reset the computer, and then still get the free one after a year or 15K miles.

I had some coolant come out as well when I did my first oil change. There was no other way to access the oil filter unless you move the coolant reservoir out of the way. Because you have to "lop" the reservoir over the radiator support (due to not disconnecting hoses from it) some comes out of the reservoir cap. Only a few dribbles, but nothing to worry about IMO. ...Wish they designed the oil filter reservoir near the top (like all the current bmw's) for easier access and less accidental oil spillage. This may only be for the Cooper S due to how things were placed in the engine bay. I'm not sure how it is on older S's as well, nor non S models. I just know that my current cooper S (2011) is this way. No biggie.

Look again. It is on the driver side just behind the coolant tank and down a bit towards the ground. It's hard to find at first, especially since the filter housing is black.

Thanks. finally found it. Very hidden and a ***** to get to. Can't believe for something oftenly accessed the brilliant engineers can't find a better way to position it.

Anyway, finally got my oil / filter changed.

Is there an difference in the filter or is it just a revised number system?

having some with both the old and new numbers sitting in my parts drawer I'm of the opinion there is no difference. If there is one, you can't see it when the filters are side by side . . .

It is just a part number update. It now covers the R60
as well as the R56 R57 R55

Hi all - patiently waiting for my MCS is arrive (maybe by Dec.) and want to get a few items in advance for the oil change. Knowing nothing about the filter, is it a simple screw-on type? Do I need a special wrench to remove it?

My previous cars and my motorycle use these types and I had to purchase the special "wrench" to remove them (really just a cap that goes over the filter and you can insert a socket wrench to remove).

Thanks!

[edit] Guess I should have searched the part number in this thread before posting as I see it's a cartridge type. Never changed that type before. Does the housing need anything special?
