Wow. That sucks. Do you know where this happened?

This is exactly the reason why I have not gone with 18" JCW wheels/35 profile tires. Its amazing that my 17" JCW Challenge wheels are not destroyed after driving in the NYC area for the past 2.5 years.

I have one that looks EXACTLY like that. Los Angeles freeway pothole, post-rainstorm. Replaced it with a new one ($430) and new tires all around since I was due anyway. But OUCH! My car hit that crator and bounced. I knew immediately there was damage.

I finally found the correct place to send a damage report to request reimbursement.

Happened on the Van Wyck Expressway a couple nights ago, headed back into the city from JFK, and these were 17'!! with an extra few pounds of air to compensate for the crappy roads.

I could send the city the bill, but it requires me going out and taking several pictures of the pothole, getting a police report. getting MINI service to submit a notarized report saying damage was not cause of a defect, getting several notarized witness reports, and on, and on and on.

Oh man, that hurts too look at. Must have felt/sounded like the hand of God himself reached down and bopped the car on the roof....or would it be reached up and punched the controll arm?

yeah, all I could think afterwards was that if I were on my motorcycle, my ********* would be somewhere lodged in my throat right about now.

I bet. I've hit some decent sized ones in Houston, thankfully none big enough to do this..though one did manage to shear an endlink on my old car that had a 29mm front swaybar and 27.5mm rear swaybar....scared the hell outta me and hurt like heck. I can only imagine this felt similar.

Nothing else appears to be broken, but it would be a miracle if my alignment is fine. Will have to get that confirmed at some point in time.

Yeah, I'd definitely get someone to stick her on a lift and give her a good looking over to make sure nothing else is damaged.

if i posted a pic of my (same) rim that was damaged here on the 405 in LA, you'd think i stole the picture from you. i had the same bend and crack. dropped $380 + tax (the dealer matched prestige's ebay pricing) for the rim and another $45 to get my tires swapped over. i'm gonna file a claim with caltran with very little expectation of getting reimbursed.
does anyone think damage like this is even fixable? i was thinking about getting it fixed and throwing some tires on it to serve as a spare that i'd take along with me for long trips.

My right front was bad enough that I was losing air in spurts after hitting a hole on Queens Blvd. Got it fixed for $80 and it's been good for a month now. It looked the same, but on the inside of the rim.

Mine was on the 405 South, carpool lane near Norhoff. They fixed the hole the very next day! Just my luck!
I submitted a claim to CalTrans a few weeks ago. I got a letter back telling me it was denied because I sent it to the wrong "entity" and that it was "not part of the City of Los Angeles". Further they state that my claim should be sent to:
Code:
State Board of Control
Government Claims Division
PO Box 3035
Sacramento, CA 95812-3035
I will be sending it to the above "entity" in a few days but am not holding my breath, especially since CalTrans did not return my original claim, or my original receipt. Oh well.

Since I "only" spent $277 of my own money (I used $200 in MINI credit card points) the impact to my wallet is not as bad as it could have been.

at least caltran responded! i'm guessing the section of 405 that i was stricken by is part of the city of LA. i'll make sure to make copies of all my receipts before i send it out. i'm glad clatran is at least responsive to your claim. i suppose they could have just said/sent nothing!

Yep, they responded fairly quickly. I actually got a letter about a week after I submitted the claim telling me they received it. Too bad I sent it to the wrong place. I wonder how responsive our great state capital is going to be!

I've squared a few wheels in the past on Queens Blvd, that road is a nightmare to drive on
