OS Giken LSD 1.1 or 1.5 way?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy an OS Giken Super Lock LSD, but I don't want to buy from the US, because us poor Aussies have to pay ridiculous customs fees on objects over AU$1000.

So I'm going through a local guy that imports Japanese products, and he asked me if I wanted the 1.1 or 1.5 way diff. Which one does everyone here use? I'm guessing it's the 1.1 way

Thanks in advance

Elie

So it would appear...

"Dan Gardner - Jackson-Dawson Road Race Scion tC
Scion tC: Thunderhill(CW) May,2009

We selected OS Giken and the Super Lock LSD because of their reputation, especially in Japan. They don't believe in 1.5-way units for FWD applications, as that will cause the car to push on turn-in. This is the last thing you want in a FWD car. For FWD applications, the units are 1.1-way, meaning they are open on turn-in, and only go to lock once power is applied."

1.1 won't Stay locked as long under decel as a 1.5 . W lsd's anything above one point is regarding to decel lock. I would go w the 1.1 unless you track heavy then you'll get the most benefit from the 1.5. In my s2000 I had a giken 1.5 but that was Rwd and the lock unlock action is more aggressive as well(regarding the LSD). Both are great one is just more aggressive than the other. I as well will be getting an LSD for my next mod

Interesting. OSG say that 1.5 is for street driving and 1.1 is for "sport" driving....

But thanks for response guys, I assume the one I want is the 1.1 way diff then?

Hehe I've already read that page. But I'm hearing conflicting info, and also, OS Giken can't tell me which one is being sold on all of the MINI vendor sites.

All the OS diffs we sell or use are 1.1 way if that helps.

Also found this on a forum: "

We selected OS Giken because of their reputation, especially in Japan. Road race cars in pro Japanese racing series have won championship with that type of differential. They also don't believe in 1.5-way units for FWD applications, as that will cause the car to push on turn-in. This is the last thing you want in a FWD car. "

Most Japaneses tuners that race FWD opt to go with a 1 way over the 1.5. Like I said OS pushes us to go with the 1 way and when I used to sell Cusco products they suggested the same. I've never had issues with 1 ways and most drivers I've worked with seem to like the way the car responds.

If you had a preference, which would you go for? I'm going to buy the OSG diff from werkinmini, and Keith sells the 1.5 way variant.

I have a good friend at OS so I gave him a call. He said they have been making changes to the R56 diff based on feedback from various race teams.

Originally they sold a 1 way because the R53 had the best results with this. However because of the way the R56 makes power and the way it handles they made some changes and are now selling the 1.5 way as the standard diff.

On average most drivers were shaving some time off with the 1.5 way over their original 1.1 way. Some drivers still have specific preferences based on their driving style and OS made custom set up 1.1 ways for them, but that's at an extra tuning cost.

Normally I would say go with the 1 way since most FWD cars handle good with them, but OS knows their stuff and if they are getting better results from a 1.5 way then I would say to get that.

So yeah 1.5 way

Yep this is precisely what I heard from Keith at werkinmini, and he relayed that info to me this morning. Good to get this info!

Thanks to you too Mike
