Is the 2007+ TPMS model-year specific?

I bought a set of 16-inch MINI tire/wheels from a guy who had wrecked his 2010 convertible...he said the tires/wheel still contained the TPMS sensors, and I had no reason to believe otherwise.

Turns out the TPMS sensors in the wheels do not work with my 2009 MC.

Are the TPMS sensors model-year specific even among Gen II MINI's?

After a talk with the dealer, he said one kind of TPMS sensor was produced for model years 2008 and 2009 and part of 2010, and then a different kind of TPMS sensor was produced for late model year 2010 and onward...or something close to that.

What do you guys know about this?

Good grief, it wasn't hard enough already to buy wheels in the aftermarket worrying about the sensors fitting, etc, now, even if you find a set of wheels with the sensors you have to know which model year they came from? And in the case of 2010, you have to know was it early or late 2010? And all just so there is an idiot light to tell me I have low tire pressure? MINI...give us a break...

What the dealer told you was correct. The sensors changed for model year 2010, so 2007-2009s have one type, 2010 forward have different ones.

just use your old ones?? you can also not use them at all if you like... the light will just stay on.

or if you switch wheels a lot you can make a PVC 'bomb' with a Schrader valve on it and throw your stock sensor in it, pressurize, and forget about it lol

you can then resell the 10+ ones as they are worth a bit more than the 07-09s

BTDT on 2010 sensors

Have a Sept 2009 build date on a 2010, i.e. an early 2010. They required the new sensors--place I bought them from thought is was "after" September, but it turns out to include Sept. 2009 builds for the new style.
