Seat Fitment: 2005 Seats in a 2003

Looking to replace my awful vinyl sport seats in my 03 MCS. Found a good deal on Space Cloth seats from a 2005, but can't seem to find some solid info on whether or not they are going to work. A lot of the threads don't follow up on how to contend with the passenger sensor, and some hint at the airbag system not hooking up correctly. Can someone please offer solid advice and information? Much appreciated!

I'm going to confirm what you already know. The sensors will not work on your 2003. I'm sorry, but I do not know what is needed to make them work.

There is another thread on here where its said to be possible with the switch of the seat belt harness.

Been talking with member Vollgas. He has apparently swapped from an 06 into an 04, and the only real work I'd need is to swap seat belt assemblies. Let's hope it is that easy. Perhaps I'll do a write-up with some photos!

For the love of god, PLEASE stick with this! I've been dying to do a seat swap for a long time, my old gravity leather is all torn and nasty.

FWIW, I know it's pretty simple to swap R56 seats into an R53 as well, just in case you were looking to broaden your options a bit.

So, the seats arrived last week and I finally got the chance to do the install before taking a 4 hour drive to visit my family for Easter. I forgot to take pictures, but it was much easier than I anticipated. Hardest part was removing some of the bolts.

You need a set of decent Torx bits– its best if you dont already own a few to just plunk down a few extra dollars and buy a whole set for ~$20. First things first, disconnect your battery. Once you get the bolts out for the rails, disconnect your sensors under the seat and remove it. Then all you have to do is remove the seatbelt buckle and attached sensors (they twist out of their mounts, and the buckle uses a T50 bit to remove the bolt), swap them over, and reinstall and reconnect. Easy! Also, for anyone considering Space Grey cloth– the photos out there make the lighter grey part look almost silver. Not the case when you actually view them.

I am happier with the grippy new seats and have a drastic reduction in sweaty backed shirts. Woohoo!

Ya know, I dont have a clue. I hear it can be done, but havent seen a thread showing it. I have no idea if the bottom seat frame is the same.

Gen 2 seats will not fit in Gen 1 cars.
Different railing system.
I had a pair of 06 Grey on Grey Leatherett, heated seats.
Sold to a very nice R53 owner in CA.
He did almost the same swap out as this.
Said it only took an hour to do.

You could probably just switch the rails on the seats too. Not positive it can be done. But seems like it would be possible.
