Yeah, but why when you log into the Owner's Lounge to check on "Where's My Baby" it says "From Oxford, England to your dealer's door?"
Because the Owner's lounge is lame...it's just there to look pretty. If they wanted it to be useful they'd hook it into their databases and give you all the juicy details about where your car is in the process, where it's going next and when.
Of course that costs $ to build and maintain so for now you have to call ASK-MINI or your MA if you want more info.
You'd think it would be cheaper to have that info available on-line thus reducing their staff and overhead.
I agree the O/L is lame. It says our CM is scheduled for production and I was told today by our MA that it has been produced already. That was quick since it went into production on Wednesday.
Assembled in a Steyr plant in Austria. Actually pretty well known for rugged off road vehicles, of course some w/ military origins. Other BMW contracts too. They don't exactly put it in their literature, but also where the Chrysler Town and Country AWD system came from. No longer sold in US, but having owned it, in the same league as the Sienna (and thus Highlander and Lexus RX) AWD system. I don't think the CM one is particularly different: fundamentally FWD, silicone clutch pack, independent suspension rear diff w/ half shafts, etc.
. . . but I am curious to know how it's operating.
From what I understand - - - it is strict union 9 to 5, Monday thru Friday. Friday afternoon, they all take off and drive the finished cars to Bremmerhaven, drop them off at the wharf, and then go carouse until Sunday afternoon when they catch the train home. It's best not to buy a Friday car - everyone is wound up for the weekend - or a Monday car - everyone is recovering from the debauchery. That's what I heard, but I may be wrong.
