Unhappy Lisbeth is Damaged & at the "Hospital"

This morning I was headed up I-5 north near Seattle when the pick up truck ahead of me lost its spare tire. Spare tire proceeded to bounce down I-5 at me and unfortunately there were vehicles on either side of me. I was able to maneuver a bit so I didn't hit the tire head on, but the damage was done to both Lisbeth as well as a van that was behind me.

Lisbeth's front passenger run flat tire is really flat now (in fact it's split), and the side molding is pulled up on the passenger side. Looks like maybe some undercarriage damage as well. The van behind me really got nailed--looked like the tire bounced up & hit him on the passenger side front corner & it's pretty crumpled.

Lisbeth was towed to Northwest MINI. The good news is that MINIs get put on a flatbed & driven and are not towed by their wheels. My MA & the rest of the crew at Northwest MINI were great. Hopefully Lisbeth will not be in the hospital long. The other good news is that the driver stopped & I got a police report on it as well.

So other than being mad at Lisbeth being hurt when I haven't even had her for 6 weeks and being a bit shook up, all is well. Hopefully that was all the excitement for this week!

Sorry to hear about your CM. Better down low and your ok versus getting a tire through the windshield.

I'm sure the MINI folks will fix her right up, have them redo the alignment too.

Ditto on all the other posts. Hurts me just to think about that beauty getting
treated so horribly. +1 to a complete recovery!

Most important: you are OK!
Did the pickup driver notice? Did he stop? How does your insurance deal with something like this? It seems, one shouldn't have to fork out anything for this(including deductible) and it shouldn't count against you.
I'm always paranoid about crap falling off vehicles being driven by people too lazy to care about others on the road.
Good luck!

Good news is that he also had insurance. I have USAA insurance and my CM is already at the MINI dealership. I've always been paranoid about something like this happening. That's why I don't tailgate.

I'm hoping I'll have Lisbeth back home sooner rather than later!

Glad that you are ok and nobody was hurt. Vehicles can always be fixed or replaced. People not so much so. That really stinks to have happen to a new car especially a CM.

I vividly remember a similar experience many years ago as a child being a passenger in my mom's olds 98 when a tire came off a vehicle going the opposite direction on the interstate. The tire bounced over the center divider and slammed into our front end. We saw it coming in a split second. Amazing amount of damage that it caused to the front end and those vehicles were built like tanks back in the day. Had we been a second further down the road that tire would have come through the windshield and I wouldn't be here today.

All the best. I hope Lisbeth has a speedy recovery.

Hate that that happened to you! Nothing worse than having SOMETHING happen to your new baby!

Glad you're ok. Don't forget to get Lisbeth a stuffed animal so she feels better when she first comes home.
