Getting Auto A/C regardless, could care less about the HK audio. Just debating the sunroof, almost every car I have had has had one (including my MCS), but I rarely use them, the extra light is nice, but do I really need to spend the extra $1000 (well $1250 cause I'd just go luxury than).

also any other thoughts/comments would be appreciated

My best advice would be to get a shade that covers the sunroof in your MCS (like the Zippee shade), leave it in for a week or so and see if you miss the sunroof. I personally hate the sunroof in my MCS and won't be getting one in my CM, but that's just my opinion.

 

It's a personal preference thing. The only financial reason to get one may be that it would improve resale value. I wouldn't buy because of that though. Personally, I love sunroofs and think they are especially great in the Mini. But, thats just me. If I were as indifferent about it as you appear to be, I'd keep my $1000.

 

Like you, I was on the fence about getting a sunroof. In the end, I decided to buy it, because even though I don't open it alot, I like having the sunshine in the car. I drove for a few hours with current car's my sunroof closed and the built-in cover covering it up, and didn't like the darkness. But YMMV.

I'll say, my niece and nephew are *thrilled* about the sunroof over the back seats. Every time I mention it, they say that I bought it for them. :-)

 

I believe you meant the "Premium Package" (A/C, H/K, Sunroof) $1750

I noticed you're not going with the Bluetooth? I believe that's a "must have" then again, I love gadgets.

Also, you may want to consider the split rail.

 

Not getting the HK sound is a HUGE mistake. The base audio is near terrible and the HK is awesome.

The huge sunroof is great, i love mine. But there have been some issues reported with them.

Rattles are a one... mine rattles but I usually have the radio up sound enough that I can't hear it.

And... BMW in general has had a history of 'exploding sunroofs'. Some have been covered under warranty. But I think it is a pretty rare issue.

 

If you're not sure you want the sunroof and you don't care about the audio upgrade then don't spend the $ on the package. Stick with the things you need and, if you can afford it, add the things you want...but don't pay good $ for stuff you don't need or really want.

Now if the $ is burning a hole in your pocket and your really want to spend it on a Mini, send it to me...I ordered my car today and am not too proud to take contributions form strangers.

Yea Premium woops, and you cant get bluetooth with Nav/Mini connect, well it's not selectable, I really wont need it though as I have an iPhone.

aggh rattles (great argument against), yea the sunroof in my MCS rattles like crazy, the other issue is it sticks when it gets hot out, not sure if they have ever fully corrected this issue. Exploding sunroofs were always over blown and usually a result of tinting.

I don't know, I'm no audiophile, but the base system in my 08 MCS, is just fine, I'm assuming they are the same.

You can't select it because it comes automatically with Connect/Nav... what did you think Connect meant?

 

I kinda figured that, but wasn't sure. But the "connect" refers to the iPhone app and connection.

Enjoy the most frustrating yet fun 8-10 weeks ahead of you. I'm hitting the one-month mark on order, and I have been doing a ridiculous amount of researching of after-market options I want while waiting for updates on my car.

 

Ok I definitely decided against the premium pkg, putting down my deposit and placing my order tomorrow, $800 off MSRP, plus my last moth lease payment ($280). Hoping for the first week of May.

 

What made you decide against the P/P? $800 off MSRP is fair. It brings the cost of the P/P down to $950

 

Well, it would basically be 1K for more light, that I don't even think I want. As I said to start off the I don't care about the HK audio, so it comes down to the sunroof.

I've lived with the sunroof in my MCS for three years now, and thinking about it, it really has a lot more negatives than positives, rattles, gets stuck when its very hot (not saying its and issue with the CM), needs extra blind or to be tinted (which takes away it's biggest benefit to begin with), added weight. All that and I rarely use it aside from venting off the car in summer.
