show me your cool garage door mats!

Hi all . . . We are doing a garage makeover to make the space fit for a MINI. We are painting the walls and laying Race Deck tiles. I am trying to find a cool door mat, but I am having a hard time. The best I can find is an all black mat from Griot's. If anyone has a cool mat, please show it off!

thanks for those pics, BoCRon.

sequin: I will be sure to post pics! Tonite my husband installed an oscillating fan on one of the walls to keep me cool when I detail my MINI during the hot South Florida summer. We got our mini refrigerator today, and tomorrow the tv should arrive (to be wall mounted), as well as the race deck tiles. I am also waiting on my MINI wall clock and MINI reserved parking sign. I cannot believe I am so excited about a garage makeover!

Are you doing any checkerboard stuff in your makeover? Here's a favorite website of mine.

You southern climate people are killing me. A nice mat like that in my garage would last about a month before getting trashed by the elements.

Oh, and thanks for leading me to the racechex link Annette...that site is likely to lighten my already thin wallet considerably...

Cool, we are doing RaceDeck and Galdiator cabinets in our new garage too, didn't think about a mat though.

Here's our RaceDeck Design

By the way, if you sign up on the Garage Journal Forum and call RaceDeck and tell them you are a Garage Journal member they will give you a discount on your floor, plus free shipping

It looks like a cool mat but don't drive that way on the Dragon!

wpb mini: I'm very pleased to find another "car chick" like me!! My girlfriends just look at me strangely when I tell them I spent a day or weekend detailing my car. They just can't believe it.

I'm jealous of your new garage!!

thanks for the link, Annette. Funny you should send it because I actually came across it in your garage detailing thread the other day! I visited the site and I see alot that I like, but right now I am not sure what I will have in a checkerboard pattern other other than the racedeck tiles. The entire floor is checkerboard --black and gray tiles. I think that a huge checkerboard floor, with a red accent wall, might be statement enough. But who knows. The only things I have for my red accent wall are my MINI wall clock, MINI reserved parking sign, and flatscreen tv. After I get all the floor tiles installed and clock and sign mounted, I will decide what other accessories to add. But thanks again for the link!

Luv325Ci-MiniCoopS: all I can say is . . . WOW!

and Gil-galad: I am really sorry for all you northerners this year. I was raised in Buffalo NY, and Rochester, NY, so I know what you all have to deal with up there. That is why I moved to Florida when I had the chance! Good luck to you, and I hope it warms up soon!

So great to read about your garage plans. Since getting my MINI I've slowly carved out my very own spot in our garage. I built shelves, ordered the MINI parking sign and have all of my car cleaning things, knee pads, etc. neatly stacked and know where everything is. Have my mini calendar hanging up and no one goes in Minikins' space without my knowing about it.
I do my detailing in the early hours during the summer and have a small portable heater for the Colorado winters.
No floor mat yet but I always have a white liner under the MINI, just in case of any drips, so I'll be on it, right away.
My family thinks I'm a little odd but that's nothing new. My MINI definately has an attitude.

hi Kathy1946:

I love that name Minikins. So cute. And its great to hear from another car chick! Who would think a car could be so inspiring?

I do my detailing in the evenings during south florida summers, but during the cooler months, I detail in the mornings after my run, or in the afternoon. Our summer evenings can be sweltering, so I think the fan will help just as much as the mini (not MINI) refrigerator that we got yesterday.

Oh, and my family, and neighbors think I'm nuts too. The other day, when we were in the middle of painting the back wall red, our neighbor came over and said, with a quizzical look on his face, "you're painting your garage?" I cannot wait to see his face when the garage is completed (hopefully this weekend)! In my mind, it will be like the biblical parting of the Red Sea when my garage door opens, and he can see my MINI on display in its full, detailed, shiny glory!

sequin, there are quite a few car chicks around here. Yeah, most of my friends used to think I was nuts, but now after all these years they accept it. Most of their husbands are asking why they aren't more like me LOL. I tell them if you have 2 car nuts in the family, you'll always be broke.
Here's a link to my garage, which I totally redid about 4 years ago. I'm currently in a new phase and am updating and changing some stuff just for fun.

Here's the whole album showing some befores:

wpb mini,
There are days when I just sit and talk to mine. Especially after the final wipe off. It knows it's loved.
Your garage is going to be awesome and I can picture it perfectly. Yes,,I can just imagine the neighbors look. So great to actually hear my own feelings, from someone else.
I don't need to tell you to have a good one, cause I know you do.

+1 for that! BoCRon, I cannot thank you enough for starting that garage detail thread! It is a great resource and really ignited a spark in me! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

My garage will probably still not be as neat as yours, since I have 2 kids and all their outdoor stuf . . . but at least we have it organized as well as we can. You'll see in the pics when I post.

Thanks, Richard!
Part of the area I'm refurbishing is my detail corner. I'm going to take some pics this weekend so I'll post when I'm done. Hopefully you'll be proud .

well, the Racedeck tiles arrived today. 10 boxes on my front porch. Each box weighing in at 45-50 lbs. I am sure the UPS delivery guy loves me now . . .
