Sell or Not to Sell over Turbo issues?

I have an '07 MCS and I love driving the car. In the 6 months that I have owned it I have brought it into the dealer for warranty work several times.

I have had one issue where the pully and timing chain tensioner had to be replaced. I have heard that the tensioner was a recall. Then I have had the turbo go out. The last time it was in the shop it would have cost me over $3,000.00 to fix. I remember from having to sign off on the warranty work.

Since I only have warranty until April and my car only has 32K miles on it. Question is should I sell and get something newer or different or not? Just curious if others have had many issues as well. Honestly if something were to happen I wouldn't have the extra $3K sitting around.

Suggestions?

I didn't buy the car at a mini dealer. I purchased it wholesale. Plus i'm not sure it's worth the money. Might just be better off to get a newer car. But i'm speculating that I can't get it I have not actually looked into it.

i'm kinda in a similar position. i'm at 45k miles. time is no issue but i do about 1000miles a month. i've had a LOT of service visits. i've either gotta do the extended warranty or change. and there is an a3 3.2 cpo that's really tempting me... then i drive the mini again and it is so addictive

The SA at my dealership told me that the extended service contract goes with the car, and it doesn't matter where you bought the mini. I got mine at CarMax and I am able to buy it, as long as the standard warranty hasn't run out

The Audi has a very reliable engine and is pretty quick. Not much room for mods and gets sub par gas mileage, but it won't leave you stranded.

Your call. I have an 06 MCS with no existing warranty. My car has a supercharger and not a turbo, however it will go out some day. I try to plan for costly repairs. Look into the extended warranty and see how that looks. Otherwise, pay off your car and put your monthly payments into a savings account and you should be way ahead.
Independent repair shops should save you major $'s over MINI dealerships.

Or you could trade it in on a new '11, and have 4 years of full warranty and three years of maint......

Just for curiosity, did you follow the factory computer based service intervals, or did you change your oil more often?

Edit: Reread your post, you've only owned the car 6 months, so you have no info on whether the previous owner followed the factory schedule or his own. I think you should give the car a chance and drive it and get your money's worth out of it, but if you fear the car, trade it on a new one.

If you decide to keep it, change the oil a couple times a year and you probably won't have any turbo problems. Most of the issues I've heard or read about stem from a clogged oil return line from the turbo, clean oil will prevent this from happening.

oh yea, i think, despite my love of my mini, the audi is a far superior car but the charm and fun of the mini is pretty strong. i THINK i'm gonna do the 6/100 on my car. as a "current customer" they quoted me 3040+tax = 3252.80$ trading will likely cost more than that and unless i throw more money out i'll likely have a similar car. a3, GTI, golf tdi (all the same really) etc.
