If you didn't buy new TPMS sensors with the wheels you won't be able to get rid of the light. They run about $200 for a set.

If you did buy the TPMS sensors, then your owner's manual has a simple description on how to reset your system - it involves the button on the end of the turn signal stalk. Basically, you insert your key, but don't start the car (Push the start button with your foot off of the brake and/or clutch) then cycle thru the various menus till you find the tire one, then hit reset.

If you didn't buy the sensors, and you don't want to add them after the fact, the light will always be with you as you motor, but you'll get used to it. I didn't run sensors in mine for almost a year, never really bothered me....when I bought new tires I added the sensors.

Yes - they are part of the valve stem - tires need to be broken down off the beads at least to remove and install. So you might as well just buy new sensors.

In my GM truck they even give individual tire pressure on the dash readout - too bad MINI does not do that - very handy to check tire pressures at any time.

A cheaper option - until you get around to adding sensors if ever - a 1" piece of black electricians tape over the light!!!

You actually have to have the car running and then drive it around during the reset to properly to the reset.

But yes as others have said you could use the ones from your original set. Just be ware the if they are damaged during the removal you will not know until they are fully installed on the new rims. And if they are damaged that means taking a part the new wheels again to replace it.

My point was to get him to read his manual as much as anything.....

Why don't people do this? When I get a new car, it's the first thing I do.....sit down with a drink and read it, cover to cover.

@MINIdave - yes my friend it is annoying if people don't read the manual.

@MCS Fever - you there are among the Very(*100) that have done that. I did not go that far but I did take the manuals the day my car arrived at the dealer, and it was three days before I could pick it up. My MA still spent 3 hours with me going over EVERYTHING, even stuff that was not in the manual.

Another option is to load all 4 of the original wheels with the TPMS sensors in the car...It would be a bit tight, but it would work too.

That's to be expected as the antennas are wheel and sensor specific! When the wheels move around the TPMS module knows what location they are at.

So do those sensors have little batteries in them?

Yes - I know with GM's anyway when the battery fails, you replace the whole sensor....

The battery life is about 5 years. When it dies the entire sensor needs to be replaced.
