The R53 and the classic are both super hot... Not so hot the price on the classic, but so far the R53 is only at $11k, although the reserve isn't met.

The classic is a bit confusing, when you read through the ad they can't decide if it's a 74 or a 98,
but he says it's registered as a 74? Then when you go to his PhotoBucket link he has it listed as a 98 again.

I think left-hand drive imports need to be labeled as antique to be legal over here? Or something like that? If they can get it titled as an antique it doesn't have to meet US standards. But how they manage to turn a '98 into a '74 "legally" is beyond me.

"As a general rule all motor vehicles imported into the United States that are less than 25 years old must comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS), or be brought into compliance with the FMVSS by a Registered Importer.

Imported motor vehicles are subject to U.S. safety standards, bumper standards, and air pollution control (emission) standards. Most vehicles manufactured abroad that conform with U.S. safety, bumper, and emission standards are exported expressly for sale in the United States; therefore, it is unlikely that a vehicle obtained abroad meets all relevant standards. Be skeptical of claims by a foreign dealer or other seller that a vehicle meets these standards or can readily be brought into compliance. Nonconforming vehicles entering the United States must be brought into compliance, exported, or destroyed."

Yeah, but it's a lot nicer if it's really an antique,
so that you can then insure it for about 1/10th
of what the 98 would cost (with this economy you gotta save where you can)

(plus if it's a 98 then it's not worth what they want for it)

P.S. Great info Amberback, if they are able to pull that off, then they have a hell of a loophole.
We have the same compliance laws up here in order for a car to be able to enter Canada, but no such loophole, whatever year
is in the serial number is the year that goes on the paperwork. So no matter where it comes from, if it's not 25 yrs old then they
won't class it as an antique.
