JCW Intake Cabin noise

So I drove my MINI for the first time today since installing the JCW CAI. I have the flap open all the time. My question is about the cabin noise. Is it normal to have extra whooshing sound when accelerating hard? I don't mind it I just want to make sure it is normal. Thanks!

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

How do u like the sound of the JCW?..i WANT to be able to hear the turbo spool up under acceleration and was worried the sealed box would muffle it too much. Can u hear the blow off valve too?

We live off a short dirt road and occasionally meet a driver coiming head on which can cause us to drive throught dust. I liked the sealed box desigh of the JCW verses some open ones like the DDM....thanks

I absolutely love the sound of the JCW CAI. I never ran it nor have I ever been in a MINI with a JCW and the RPM cowl flap activated so I can not tell if there is a difference in sound with the flap open. I do know with the JCW CAI, the flap open, and the Madness Hi-Flow Filter set up I have now the sound is fantastic. The whine is mesmerizing during hard acceleration, yet cabin noise is still quiet as before (or so it sounds like it) during normal cruising speed.

The cowl flap being open is not a huge opening by any means. It is maybe 3" in width and 1" in height (oval shaped) to the cowl vent under the driver side windshield wiper. I don't think you should worry about any excessive dust coming into the JCW air filter box. No more than the regular closed box. The JCW box is still a closed box and looks stock.

BTW I am not sure what you mean by the blow off valve. Isn't that for a turbo.

This is the forum for First Gen MCS. We have Superchargers not Turbos.

No turbo here, supercharger - the supercharger whine is more pronounced and audible with the JCW CAI so I'd imagine your turbo may be as well.

Blow off valve... sheesh...

Sorry guys..Newbie mistake for posting in the wrong forum. I do believe the JCW intake will make the desired turbo "whine" I am looking for. Thanks all!

Turbos dont have a "whining" sound. But it sounds like all you want is a blow off valve sound... soo.... by a aftermarket blow off valve

blowoff valves

The JCW sound is not as pronounced as some of the other after-market options available. And mine is open all the time... My favorite other than my JCW is the DDM Works CAI. Sounded awesome.

Well...after much reading I have decided on a Defenders of Speed intake as seen here:

http://defendersofspeed.com/store/pr...?id_product=20

It really seems to offer a lot of benefits and no major problems like some of the other units like oil in the mass air flow sensor. I really like the way it can be quieted down (If I needed to) by the addition of a butterfly valve and a plug.

You can read all about it here:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-ddmworks.html

I think that intake and this NM Engineering exhaust is what I want.

I think you should have bought a 5 year old MINI then, if not older if you want that "desired whine". You would have the whine and better handling! Sounds good to me.
