Color choice - red or yellow, which two-tone

Although MINI Countryman is no longer mini, it's still very cool and seems to deliver a lot of fun in this class - although the GTI is great competition.

I've browsed through the photo thread and enjoy seeing all the colors. I think I'd order it in red or yellow to fit its unique characteristics. I've seen a lot of red with black top/wheels. I've also seen one yellow with white top (Spaner).

Just wonder how you all think about:

1) Yellow with black top, strips, black wheels.

2) Red with white top, white stripes, anthracite wheels.

Thanks.

You may get as many different replies as there are people. Bottom line is, it's your choice. Try to get a look at your particular color combination in person. The colors really are different when you see them in person.

For example, below is a picture of a pure red CM at a local auto show posted by the local dealer. It's a great color, but maybe not what you'd expect from "pure red."

Spaner's looks great! Here's a yellow with black top screen shot taken from my MA's youtube vid (sorry for poor quality). Yellow seems pretty rare.

I'm just jealous that you've seen a CM on the road. I live in Atlanta, where there are tons of MINIs out there, but still haven't seen my first CM in a "live" environment. Only at the dealership.

Thanks for the comments. Yes I've looked through the red/orange thread and see how lighting can make a difference on the car.

I like Yellow because of the contrast of the color with the tail lights. also, the black window makes the white top less attractive. Of course, the online configurator doesn't help the case for yellow.

You can't go wrong with either combo. Also consider the red/black/anthracite combo. I looked at a yellow/black today and it was quite nice. And a red/white that was very spiffy. (Annapolis MINI)

I won't belabor a point that's already been belabored to death, but just be sure you can handle either of your choices. The Austrians have a very strange way with color.

Happy motoring!

I thought MINI is British? Austrians are mainly contractors, right?

Sealy if you can shoot some photos of the cars you saw that would be great, as these are of my interest. Much appreciated. Right now I'm a bit doubtful of the red / white combination - as the white doesn't seem to match the dark window/pillars and the black roof rails make the top a bit too busy; black moon roof would also make the white seem even more out of place.

The yellow/black reminds me of the Steelers color combination, although I'm not a fan per se. Red/black is more Falcons, and Red/white is Cardinals.

I've had white, blue and silver cars, and it's time to spice things up.

I think the yellow-black combination is nice looking. Below is a link to a picture I considered. I think the lighting is off on this shot, but the yellow is a very light yellow.

They may be contractors, but they own the paint cans. Everything about the Countryman is different and where we see it most is in the colors. The standard colors (black, white, silver) seem to be OK, but when you get into the fun colors . . . Well, something gets lost in the translation. They all have undertones - Red is Orange, Yellow is Green, Surf Blue is Aqua, etc. Why they didn't use the standard formulas is a mystery. I e-mailed the help people and they were no help - "Thanks for asking. You can see the colors on MINIusa."

Unfortunately, I won't be making a dealership run for a couple of weeks - so, no pictures. They probably would not read anyhow. You really do needd to see them in person to understand.

Also - and it's just me - I just do not like the black top. Don't like the shiny finish, don't like how it makes the top look squished. White floats and I can tie mine together with side, bonnet, and boot stripes. It's all about youification.

Good luck!

I am not exactly impartial as I really like yellow - it really does turn greenish when dirty though.

For us it had to be a white top as the family felt the contrasting roof was truly a mini look

If I were to get a sunroof then I would definitely get a black top and yellow with black or anthracite wheels

I did see my first pure red and indeed its is tomato red but I really like it - I think it wold look great with a white top but I can see why folks might find it a bit loud

Don't over think it - your sitting inside and cant see it most the time anyway!!!

Thanks all for the links and comments. Color is all subjective. Unfortunately my local dealer has only one gray Countryman to see - it's selling quite well.

Whatever red/orange or yellow/green, these make a loud statement. MINI is a car to make such statement. If I want understatement, there are too many other vehicles choices to choose from. On the other hand, I won't add any chrome pieces. Let the colors speak for themselves.

I'm also leaning towards anthracite wheels.

We went with a pure red and a white top. Our baby should arrive on March 28th! We loved the orange hue thought it was very unique. I for one am glad it is not a popular color. Our second choice was the yellow with a white top. Our MA advised the white top for a couple reasons. one the black top heats up the car some and there is always the keeping black clean issue.

We also went for the Pure Red with White top. Finished this off with white mirror caps & White Alloys. Looks a treat. Pictures in NAM gallery.

Very nice. I guess it'll be hard to keep the wheels clean?

its an absolute PITA to keep wheels clean but different brake pads will fix that

Someone like EBC will likely come out with a pad that sheds less but has equivalent or better performance

I can't deny that they are a pig to keep clean. Usual mixture of break pad dust & road dirt spoils the appearance. Alloy wheel cleaner & pressure wash does the trick though. When they are clean they are lovely with the red & white of the car. Worth the effort.
