All4 strange smell in heavy snow

HI,

I noticed an electric type smell when trying to drive through some heavy snow getting in and out of a parking spot. It was mild but smelled like electricity. It happened when I was pulling out of a spot which was plowed in, ALL4 was definitely active to get out. Same thing happened when I had to get it parked again

Anyone else notice this with the All4?

I noticed a few smells during my extended test drive and one was the same thing you mention. I chalked it up to some production-type fluid or something like that burning off.

Keep us updated.

I believe the all-wheel-drive system is electro-magnetically controlled somehow. Don't know the details, but that's what I heard one of the MA's telling somebody the other day. It was probably working overtime getting you through the heavy stuff.

I don't think that's it. I got that smell and my drive was during a clear day with no snow on the ground at all.

about 3000, this is a pretty mild smell but only occurred when all 4 would be active.

I have noticed this a couple of times with my All4 as well dealing with the heavy snows we've been getting.

I think it might just be because it's new. When I first got my Mini (almost 2 years ago) it had a weird smell to it but it has gone away now...

Brake smell by chance?

It would be using the brakes to deal with side to side slip with the open differentials--pretty standard for (more or less part time) awd set ups these days.

I don't think it smelled like brakes, Yesterday the snow was not as bad and it has not happened again

Like others said more likely than not just new greases and crap buring off of stuff. Probably allowed the all4 to heat up more and burn off some of it.

New exhausts always have a strange smell too from the packing inside and the oil residue from manufacturing on the outside
