Ok so my mass air is reading 0

Ok well my r56 has not been wanting to start up in the morning I have to fight with it, giving it gas, starting it up to 10 times with it starting then just dying, now I take it to the shop and they run the comp on it and my mass at no load is reading 0 and it's only reading when I m driving. Any idea what it could be I have a new sensor on the way. Oh and when I was at the shop we unplugged the sensor and the car still ran the same.

Unplugging the sensor is just as if it is reading 0. If the new sensor doesn't work, check resistance on your wiring with a multi-meter. A good reading is around .2 ohms when the car is off. a bad reading will be anything over a few ohms. If some one else here could chime in, I dont know if you can hook up the sensor directly to the MAF and see if its really the MAF or just the wiring.

I haven't heard of a single MAF issue, other than them getting dirty.

You're symptoms sound spot on for a failing HPFP though....

High Pressure Fuel Pump....probably one of the most common issues with the R56....they fail left and right

You're difficulty starting and then dying in the am is a classic symptom...

It seems like you are out of warranty seeing as you have an 07...but MINI extended the warranty on HPFP's till 6yr/120k miles. Which is a god send, because it is a $1k+ repair!

Hpfp, Maf

HPFP = high pressure fuel pump. Have to ask others more what the symptoms are though; my first car with direct injection rather than port.

Not that it necessarily helps your situation, but is there good diagnostic software out there that allows direct reading of the MAF? For VW/Audi's VAG COM/VSDS is pretty state of the art, but it seems BMW/Mini somehow are not supported independently by easy to use quality diagnostic software across all the car subsystems and CAN. At least not that I have come across yet. The stuff I've seen referenced seems stuck almost in programming language and calls kind of things.

In any case, my Audi experience is if you can read the MAF directly, you would expect to see flow at about 80% of rated HP measured in grams/sec. Thus, about 160 g/s for 200HP as an example. Was able to use it to confirm my old MAF on a 300HP car ran at about 200 g/s, while the replacement hit 255-260. Meant I was down as much as 60HP on the faulty MAF as the car misread the air flow and presumably leaned the mixture out erroneously. Living proof by the way that K&N's/oil based filters and MAF's don't seem to mix well for the long term. That was when the K&N went out w/ the trash. MAF fine ever since.

Ok thanks, yeah that's what the guy at the shop said but it's getting fuel up to the motor it's is starting up it's just killing right after or it states to bog down at start miss firing. The comp said there is plenty of fuel running up to the motor. I m going to have him look in to it a lill more tho

They still get fuel when they are failing...

They just don't put out the pressure they need...when mine failed, it was only putting out half the pressure it should have been, (which is around 120bar if I remember correctly) and I didn't even have any of the cold start issues.

The AccessPort can read the MAF...but I'm not sure of the units.

It ranges from 6 at idle to 500 under WOT on mine....again though, I have no clue what those numbers are.
