I was devastated when i looked at my rim this morning. My front drivers side rim is bent. Just the lip on the edge. I got these rims about 5 months ago and i don't remember hitting any major bumps, but i guess it did happen. I went back to the place i bought it from and they said i need to buy a new rim AND tire. Is there any places that would be able to bring the rim back to its normal appearance? Maybe heat it up and bend it back? It's not like these were a cheap tire/rim set either i paid almost $1600 for them and they're Privat (elite brand of Konig) with Yokohama tires. I just really can't afford to shell out $500 for a new rim and tire. Please let me know, thanks.

EDIT: i see that you can ship to them but it says they generally charge 100-200 per rim. Is it worth it if i could get my rim online new for 200? Are there any places that would be cheaper? Also why would I need a new tire? it looks fine and is holding air...

 

3hrs away ? Yikes.....sorry, only shop we deal with in this area who specializes in BMW MINI Rims.

Can you post a pic of the dent ? Most times they can completely remove it unless they are unable to gain acess to the complete lip of the rim where the dent is. On occasion solid potruding spokes of a rim above a dent may inhibit access by tools used to bend it back.

check with some of your local car dealers. bmw, lexus etc . most have a connection or service ....

did you check your yellow pages or google locally? there are rim repair guys that operate out of a trailer just like the ding king / dent doctor type franchises. worth a look anyway.

I suspect dealer is saying replace the tire because it looks like the whack could have been severe enough to compromise the side wall of the tire.

 

There is always local places. For example, around here there is Wheel Medic... they deal with those types of hits all the time, and can usually fix them right up, decently cheap

 

Yep, the tire is history.

 

Yeah that is about a $130.00 fix I think. The shop will heat it up and gradually work the lip back to normal positon. Since it's not a painted area of the rim no futher cosmetic work should be required.

Based on the first pic you do need a tire... It looks like a little bulge which means that the belts broke inside. If there is no bulge at all, I wouldn't replace the tire.

 

looking again at your first picture I'm pretty sure I see a bulge too. Good catch iwash...

that tire is dangerous to drive on. It is very ready to blow.

If you have comprehensive coverage there's a good chance you have a valid claim here

 

did you buy the "Road Hazard" insurance on the tires or wheels? if so, your covered. if not,sorry---

 

You probably need a new tire. Take it off & look at the inside of the tire too.
