So,
Where are we going to put our iPads? I wonder how the Maps feature on an iPad will compare to the mini navigator?
Actually I am thinking the iPad will be more of a tool/play thing for passengers. Would be nice to have a dock in the rail and the ability to connect it to the electrical system of the Mini. Hmm this could be the only way El Kaboong's owner might get to drive MY MINI.

While I like to think of it as my iPad... The children have a whole different name for it. Mine is (permanently) in the back with them.
The guy who won third place in the design an accessory competition wth his iPad holder (for the back) looked like it included a charging plug, which would be a very good thing.

There are a few options I can see:
1 - bridging center rail to console (just behind the shifter?)
2 - up on the dash, seeing reflection in window (possibly too distracting to use all the time like this).
3 - stores in the sidewall, comes out and folds over main screen (perhaps with a way to quickly flip up to see main screen).
4 - mounts on the rail somewhere so you can glance down to see, uses AirPlay to send screen to MINI display (this might be nicest although currently as the screen does not support this you may have to figure out how to wire in an AppleTV to the MINI LCD).
RAM makes a mount with a flexible pedestal would work great:

The cup holder RAM mount would work great with the ipad in the backseat rail area or just in front of the ebrake:
