QUESTION about alarm retrofit

Ive been reading about doing this upgrade but cant find nothing. What appears to be a light on the center of the dash is actually nothing and will not work after you get the alarm programed?

I thought the light for the alarm was a red LED on the end of the wiper stalk for 2002-04 and turn signal stalk for 2005+.

The 'light' on the center of the dash is the UV sensor for the auto A/C. As Checkmate says, the indicator is on a stalk, depending on your year.
It's all plug and play, though it must be activated by the dealer (even though the light will flash upon install.)
Just do a search on 'alarm' and you'll get many hits. Here is one. What info are you looking for?

Was just asking because I thought it would be funny to have the light on the turn signal. I called my dealer to get a price and they told me I have to install a new turn signal stalk AND new wiper stalk? I thought it was on or the other?

also, does your low washer fluid light still work when you install this? That thing comes in handy.

if you have a 2005+ then you just replace the turn signal stalk. I am assuming you have a 2005+ because it sounds like you have the wipre stalk with low fluid indicator. Call Classic MINI in OH. That is where I ordered my alarm from. They will also give you a 20% discount for being a NAM member.

The part number is 61 31 6 946 959.
Classic MINI: (877) 687-2707

Here is the info for the part numbers:

Way from Way Motor Works also can order the part for you and he will match Classic's prices.

and yes, the low washer fluid indicator will still work because you are just replacing the turn signal stalk.

In my experience, and reported by others, the light does indeed flash when the car is locked, even if the alarm is not programmed into the BC1. So just the stalk should get you what you're looking for. And no, it makes no sense that you'd have to replace both stalks.

OK im so confused and I havent even ordered the darn thing. Some people are saying im only going to change the turn signal stalk some other are saying the wiper stalk. The kit shows only a wiper stalk.

I found these instructions.

http://www.motoringfile.com/howto/Alarm.PDF

Does the "kit" also come with all those wires and fuses that i'd have to install?

firstly, what year is your MINI?
secondly, you don't need wires or fuses the car is prewired.

I installed the OEM alarm in my MINI, the kit came with everything. Ultrasonic sensor, Tilt/Alarm unit that goes under the bonnet (the kit no longer has separate title and alarm), and the dip dim switch. I have a 2006, build date 02/2006, so I needed a new dip dim switch as I have the low washer indicator on the wiper stalk.

That's because the kit you are looking at, is for 2002, 2003, and 2004 MINI's. These have the red indicator on the wiper stalk.

If you have a 2005, you'll need a different kit.

Yes, the kit comes with either cable "A" or cable "B".

call Classic MINI in OH. give them the VIN or your car and they will order the correct unit for you. I had $235 for the entire kit. Tell them you are a NAM member for 20% discount.

No wires and fuses - the kit is plug and play.
As Checkmate said, if you have an '05, then you replace the turn stalk.
If you have an <'05, you replace the wiper stalk (the '05 wiper stalk has a low washer fluid light not present on the earlier models.
The original kits came with the stalk. I believe they changed that at some point to sell the stalks separately because of the difference in year.

Can I get the parts of a used junked one? I found a salvage yard that only has MINIs. If so, where can I find the part numbers for each part?

The P/N for the kit you need is 65750397059

See picture below. Notice the last line that references ONLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH TURN SIGNAL/DIP DIM.

No wires and fuses - the kit is plug and play. The VERY early models weren't pre-wired, but most will be. An easy check is to look in the little box behind the sunroof. If there's a connector in there, then the car is pre-wired.

Eric is right, the newer kit has the stalk separate. I paid $100 for the kit and $135 for the stalk.

Checkmate - check page 8 of the pdf gabber posted - may give a clue as to where to look for your alarm module.
