Need help with buying a "new" company used 2010 MCS.
Need help with buying a "new" company used 2010 MCS.
Saw a 2010 mcs at a dealer today. The sticker price is right around 29k and they are selling it for 24k. Later found out it already has 7k + miles on it. The salesperson told me it is still considered as "new" since it has never been licensed and it was only driven by company executives.
Since they are offering 4k off on all 2010 models (says on their website). That means they are only giving about additional 1k off given the miles on the car.
Is this a good deal or you guys think there is still room for negotiation? The car was started in service about 6 months ago which means 6 months of maintainence free program and warranty have also been used up. Also, is there a chance that the car has ever been abused?
Please provide your insights on this one.
Regards.

Hmmm, what options are on it ???? I paid $27,500 out the door for a brand new , zero miles 2011 Mini Cooper S with sport and premium package and about another $1000 in Options. $24,000 might be OK if thats out the door price.
IMO, keep looking. If it was never licensed, the in-service date should be the date of sale. That, or go for $.42/mile off the price (in addition to the stated discount) and adjust the warranty/service mileage upward by the mileage on the car. And yes, there is a chance it was abused.
It has the premium package, convenience package, cold weather page, value package and also 17" conical spokes and bonnet stripes.....also it is automatic..

It may have changed, but I think that's the gov't allowance for business mileage. You can be pretty sure the dealership has already claimed that for themselves.

If the car is considered new/never licensed then it must be a demo - the in service date for warranty purposes starts the day it goes into demo service. However, some companies (I don't know if MINI/BMW does this) allow an additional 6 mo 6K mile addition to the warranty for demos. Check with your dealer for the exact terms on this car.
It can't be a service loaner for example as those cars have to be plated and insured differently than demos, which run on a dealer plate.
As to whether it's been used and abused, who knows? If the car driven by the dealer's wife it may be fine, or it could be pretty trashed....same if it was the manager's car - you're always taking a chance on a used car, so treat it as such and look it over carefully. The difference for this car is that you have the warranty to back it up.
If you don't want to take a chance, buy a new one.

FWIW, my 2009 MCCS was a company demo car. Now, on my end it was sold to me with ~300 miles. It did live with them for about 11 months, which just made me nag my dealer until I could get some extra oil changes (which they eventually honored just before I hit 6000 miles according to some interesting rule I can't even remember)... aside from that, frankly, it was a deal. I was either going to spend $32K on a custom order, but ended up with $28K for my new clubman with just about everything I wanted (and a nice surprise: park distance control).
