3M Clear bra Paint Protection

3M has released pre-cut Clear bra for our Countryman.
I purchased from this dealer before and installed myself. I'm very satisfied with the way mine has held up. Much better than the thinner dealer installed ones.

Just installed the headlight film last night and now need to remove the foglights to install the film on them since they are so curved and recessed. The fun part will be trying to get them out. I will probably remove them from underneath the car.

In January I would have said it's not worth it.........Fast forward today YES YES AND YES IT'S WORTH THE MONEY!!! I have a cosmic blue S and I've noticed a lot of stone chips on the front of the bonnet. I'm going to have someone look at it and see what's the best course of action. WISH I SPRUNG FOR THE BRA A COUPLE MONTHS AGO.

Definitely worth it ... did not have on my '06 Convertible, but had with my '08 Clubman. The difference was amazing! Immediately scheduled clear-bra as soon as I had my delivery date. (Note - I did not go through the Dealership, found a local outfit & saved A LOT of money that way!)

JMHO, the protection may be worth it, but the look is not. No matter what people say, I have never seen a clear bra that actually looks good on a car, or was not noticeable. The majority of chips can be prevented by a good consistent coat of wax, the bad ones that can't, usually will mark up the clear bra, so while you may be protecting the paint, you will eventually need to get a new clear bra. I really don't think the cost is worth it.

Take a look at some installed clear bras to decide if the look is going to bother you. I have people checking out my car all the time, and *no one* has ever asked "what's that line across your hood?" And that's the only edge anywhere on the bra that I would even call "noticeable" - the rest are too close to panel edges or seams to see unless I point them out.

Wax isn't going to do much to prevent chips - it's only a few microns thick at most and isn't particularly shock-absorbent. I've had a clear bra on my MINI for 4-1/2 years and 75k miles, and the bra hasn't discolored or gotten marked up at all (and I park outside).

I had mine installed the day after I took delivery - I learned my lesson with my wife's MINI. In the two months between taking her car home and having the clear bra installed, she picked up a half-dozen chips on the bonnet that I had to repair before having the bra installed.

I doubt I'll own another car without a clear bra. The installer did the front bumper, headlights, hood scoop, fog lights and the first 18" of the hood for $450, and it was worth every penny. He would have included the driving lamps and mirror backs as well, but I asked him not to. The driving lights are halogen rather than xenon so I was worried about the heat, and the mirror backs aren't "chip magnets" the way the front of the car is.

I did not have it done, but our MINI Dealership told us that 3M now makes the film large enough that they can wrap the entire bonnet - so no "line". Might be worth checking out.
