Parts installed and a few concerns

Hello all! I hope somebody can put my mind at ease. I recently installed the DoS CAI, M7 hot side tube, NM engineering cold side tube, and NM torque arm inserts.

When i first installed the DoS, when I would stomp on the throttle, I would get the air suction sound and then at about 3000 RPM a "laser beam" type noise (which I assumed was the turbo) until I let off the throttle (which would then give me the blow off noise). Recently, I have noticed the "laser beam" noise has diminished and sometimes doesn't happen at all. I still hear the blow off noise though. Is this normal?

It also seems that I may have lost some power. I do not feel the turbo kick in nearly as hard as I did when it was stock. Could this be that the lag has diminished? I have double checked all of my connections and everything is tight.

Thanks for any help!

Cheers!

Ryan

could be something as simple as whether your car's warm and you punch it vs when it's cold and you punch it... different engine temperatures and different oil/coolant temperatures will make your car sound different when spooling, building boost, releasing boost, and just general cruising.

if you get an abnormal whistling sound your lower elbow for the intake snorkel might be cracked... that happened to mine and i just glued it back in place and that fixed it... also restored my seemingly lost torque.. but the DoS intake makes a beautiful sound on full throttle!

chances are the "lazer" sound isn't anything to worry about...

It's been about 15-20 degrees here all week. My car makes some funny noises when I first get out of the driveway, but after a few minutes it's fine. Just let your engine warm up before you boost at all.

The dos cai makes that laser beam noise once you go past 4000rpm. That's completely normal, but I'm not sure about the rest

Ok, at least it sounds like everything is fine. I checked for cracks on the lower elbow, and it seemed fine. I cannot wait to get on a dyno for some numbers. Anybody know of anything in upstate NY?

Cheers!

Dammit, post just got errored out and didn't post. Let me try to restate.

The "Whistle" you hear is fine while the car is boosting. With the open intake you hear all the noises within the engine amplified, aka the diverter valve blowing off, turbo spool, and the whistle caused by the compressor wheel spinning. However, if your whistle is gone/power is diminished/and you dont feel the turbo kicking the power in.. I'd be weary your turbo maybe starting to go on its way out.

Turbos die slowly/gradually and not suddenly. Could possibly be the bearings wearing out from poor lubrication.
Do you let the car warm up properly before boosting (talking oil temp not coolant temp, as it takes about 2x as long for oil to reach op temp compared to coolant). Cold oil lubricating turbine and compressor wheels does not do such a good job at it and can cause damage.
Also do you let the car properly cool down after a hard run/long drive? A hot turbo can bake the oil on the oil lines/turbo and clog them up. Relying on the water pump to circulate water through the turbo sometimes is not sufficient.

Also, check your tubing and clamps, make sure theres no gaps or loose clamps, as a boost leak could be the cause as well. Good luck and let us know any further updates!
