Whatever happened to that Toffee Mayfair?
By accident running an image search I stumbled onto Car and Driver Magazine's image database showing these Car Show pictures of a preview version of the Mini Cooper Mayfair. It really looks cool in a Toffee color and I wonder why they didn't go ahead with production?
Others here have said that Mini really needs to get more good colors out there as this is one car which can really look fabulous with the right shades and tints. The reason I didn't buy a Hot Chocolate Mayfair is because I didn't like the contrast between the lighter toffee seats and the darker body color. Today you can order the entire car in a better sorted out Hot Chocolate with dark brown leather, but apparently there's no way to get one like the concept car inspired by the vintage Austin Mini Mayfair.

Hot Chocolate is, I believe, the official name.

I think the OP is stating that the Mayfair in the pictures is a lighter toffee color and not Hot Chocolate. Too hard for me to tell... Seems that if that color in the pics is a lighter brown color it's awfully close to Hot Chocolate.
While I'm not a big Hot Chocolate fan myself, on that Mayfair with the brown interior it works for me. I pretty much dislike the color on the Clubman, but after seeing a Mayfair in person I could go for that.
When Mayfair was announced in 2009, MINI made a point of saying that it was a Hot Chocolate exclusive for the hatchback (otherwise available only in the Clubman):

The show car is indeed Hot Chocolate. This is what the color looks in bright light or sunlight. It would've been easier to recognize if the car had the toffee stripes on the hood which are the same color as the leather interior. Personally I think the two tones of brown (toffee and hot chocolate) combine quite well. Then there's the white piping on the seats that matches the white roof and white stripe edges. And let's not forget the chrome trim galore (particularly on non-turbo models)
Hi Guys/Gals,
I guess it could be the thousands of watts of lumens reflecting wildly off a Hot Chocolate Paint Job. But I'm pretty sure I would have gone full fledge and bought the car if it had looked like this in person.
The main Mini dealer in Geneva lent me a Mayfair MCS to drive around in, and it was so very very much darker although it was a very sunny day. I see loads of Mayfairs in Paris where it is a popular model and they are darker yet as it is gray weather all the time. So I figured that this must be a special Toffee (and not Cocoa) color used for a show car that was never put into production.
Thanks for your conclusions, and I'll just wait around until Mini comes up with some cool bright metallic colors like the one in these pictures... under normal lighting conditions.
