Best Speakers for Front Doors?

my speaker on the passenger side blew. I want to replace both of the fronts only(not changing head unit, or adding any amps) which would be the best? I also like bass alot.

In the end, its all a matter of preference.

In my opinion
- Top-end = DLS (crisp, clear, SQ all the way)
- Value for money = JBL GT-series

The best speakers that I have ever heard in an automobile are the Focal K2P's.

I'm almost deaf and these speakers speak to me.

The JBL series are pretty good too! Had a set of 165's and some really nice tweets heaven in my Jeep.

Components are limited on their bass capabilities due to their diameter. If you are not going to amp the speakers, buying a top-end model will waste your money. They will still sound good, but you are paying a high price because they are capable of so much more when amped. Don't spend over $100 for a pair. Actually a $60 pair will most likely suit you just fine. Make sure when you get the new ones you have the necessary adapters and mounting hardware. The Mini's speakers have weird mounts up front. I know Crutchfield.com sells mounting equipment with all their speakers.

Good luck!

Stt816, I was giving your situation a little more thought and I had a couple of ideas that might work well but I also have a couple of questions.

1) How firm is your budget?

2) How or where are you going to do, or have the installation done?

3) Just to confirm...you have a 2003 MCS with the base "boost" system with two drivers in
each front door, a tweeter near the door lever and a woofer mounted lower
down, and a 6x9 in each rear panel, correct?

4) One of your woofers is not working but the other drivers are fine, right?

5) You would like more bass performance!

6) You're in or near Stamford?

Sorry about the side track with the guys who think they know what they are talking about, but let’s just talk about your situation…

To start with, you’ve got one blown speaker now, right. Most likely from you over-driving your old worn out system to get the big bass you want in your Hip-Hop tunes. If you do what several others have suggested and just replace the one blown driver with a new or used replacement, then pretty soon you’ll be back to doing the other side. And no better off then you are now.

That being said, the stock speaker system is very limited in bass response and performance. The frequency response of the stock bass driver is only like 75hz-10khz+/-3dB. 75hz is well above almost all the bass boom you’re looking for. Bottom line, the biggest weakness of the stock bass driver is FS and excursion. FS indicates how low the driver will go and excursion is its ability to play loud low bass without distortion. So you see, you will never be happy with the stock system.

Next problem you have is that your system is a system, the music signal is split between two separate drivers, a woofer and tweeter, mounted in the door. If you install any of the 2-way coaxial drivers you listed, you will end up with a bit of a problem. You will either have 2 tweeters producing much of the same sound from 2 different locations or you will need to de-activate one. Either way you go the result will be significantly less than optimal.

I would suggest that you install a good component speaker system with separate woofers and tweeters. You will want a 6.5 inch woofer, to give you bigger and better bass, with a comparable sensitivity as stock (about 90db) to play loud enough for you. You can then replace both the old worn out drivers in each door with new higher performance drivers.

I think I found the system for you. Look at this Infinity system at Crutchfield, Its even on sale. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1086030...cs.html?tp=106

Don't worry too much about the stock head unit, it has enough power (about 15 wpc) for this system. This system is designed specifically for applications like your's. This is the way I would go if I were you.

BTW, you could add an amp to this system in the future if you want.

If you would like more detail or to talk more, let me know.

Good Luck.

A little bit more

Here are a couple more for you to consider if the price of the Infinity system is too high. All have a 6.5" woofers which is what you want.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KFCP...08.html?tp=106
or
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xQPTA3L...TS-A1702C.html You can get this system elsewhere for about $115 like here http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...2&SID=11930000

BTW, that Infinity system has a sensitivity of 93db and a FS around 50hz. Frick'n perfect for your hip-hop... Loud and Low!

these Infiniti comps seem like a good bet for the OP since they have a high sensitivity of 93db. Reasonably priced too

I just checked a couple other places on line for the Infinity 6030 system. Wow, its at Amazon for like $116 http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Refer.../dp/B002BS5YAA Amazon even has free shipping.

Or you can look here for $118 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...ce_6030cs.aspx

At the very least you can use this information to negotiate a better deal from Crutchfield.

Keep in mind that Crutchfield is high-priced because they give you the mounting hardware. If you are willing to spend money on MDF or plywood, then cut a custom speaker ring and adapter plate, great. If not, you want this mounting hardware.

If you do want to do the mounting on your own there is a website www.sonicelectronix.com that has good prices as well. I haven't checked the infinity speakers specifically though.

There is more discussion and a picture of the mounting plate I had to make here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-question.html

Also, you should check the depth of the speaker to make sure you won't hit your window. There is a fine line between a thick speaker ring and hitting your door panel, and a thin speaker ring and hitting your window (when it's down).
