That's the same time as the AMVILV next year. They moved it to May for the 2011 event. Just want to bring it up so that the organizers of this event are aware of this.

Actually, they are different weekends...

Ours is the weekend before AMVIV and it is the same weekend we have used for the last 3 years. They did move their event from Spring Break to May.

There are differences in the events and those that enjoy one may not enjoy the other. Vegas is 12 hrs away, Rapid City is about about half that.

Vegas has the Strip, The Black Hills have Mt. Rushmore. Vegas has Strippers, The Black Hills have Crazy Horse. Vegas has Gambling, The Black Hills have Sturgis. Vegas has wild and crazy people, Rapid City area has the Badlands. Vegas has Big-A hotels, neon lights and really bad traffic. Rapid City area has Devil's Tower and from our experience 2 years ago, practically no traffic at all. Vegas has a Hard Rock, Alliance NE has CarHenge. Oh, and Vegas has New York New York, Rapid City has Custer State Park. Vegas has large, loud, 24 hour hotels, lobbies, and casinos. Rapid City has the quaint Historic Hotel Alex Johnson.

Vegas has miles and miles of car bus and taxi choked roads and highways. Black Hills have 6 National Parks and over 100 miles of National Scenic Byways.

You decide.

...as will our HPMS faithful (several commitments in hand already). The 2009 R4TH was just about the most fun one can have in a MINI. We are there.

If you wish to recall what you enjoyed,

or if you wish to see what we enjoyed 2 yrs ago, check out these videos from the Kernel of C.O.R.N. himself. Pictures speak louder than words. Never mind the music, Jim is way out there in the tunes department...

Here's a video I shot of us driving through one of several tunnels near the Needles Highway in South Dakota, as part of the 2009 R4TH: YouTube Video .

Unofficial Shirt

If one of your character flaws is impatience, and you need to have something before the official version comes out, you are welcome to look at an unofficial shirt that focuses on the big May event.

He He He

and a little more patience on your part, and I will gladly send you the actual, official 2011 graphic (yes, similar to 2009 but no, different) and then we can have official official shirts.

You may want to check with Rick. He has the MINI5280 CafePress store up wiht all kinds of things for our ride and I am sure this will go there too.

Yes, MINI5280's CafePress online store will carry RFTH shirts and other stuff, as they have with other related events. Just not right now. We'll let you know.

My new Countryman S All4 is for sale to you...

Yes, sad but true. Darcy's new car. BAD news is that she ordered it, it has been produced, it is on the way and it will be in Denver mid-December. It is a beautiful Surf Blue, MCS All4, and it rocks. Nicely equipped, it is available to YOU.

GOOD NEWS is that she has actually ordered a SECOND one, yes, with ONE small change. Small but important to her, and it is Surf Blue of course also. MCS All4 of course. All the same but one little thing.

Interested? PM me your name and email, and I will gladly send you the spec sheet. Check it out, share it with others.

Note that this is the FIRST ordered car from Schomp so it will be the FIRST in Colorado, too. You can have that distinction. Once it hits the showroom floor it will go fast to someone else. And if you have not seen or driven the All4, check with Schomp as they will have one in about a week...on the floor.

Let me know if you are interested. We will have the 2nd one at R4TH in May in Rapid City...

I believe we will make this one! The Black Hills are one of my favorite places, and to experience them with other Mini owners sounds like a great trip! I have made reservations, and am looking forward to meeting everyone!

Run For the Hills (R4TH) 2011 is less than 60 days away

and our little group is anxious to get back to South Dakota and the beautiful Black Hills area of the state, very near Rapid City. As of this writing we have a group of over 35 MINIs and Minis who will be joining us from 8 states.

This is the one and only High Plains Motoring Society event each year. If you are interested in more information, PM me or Pauhana here in NAM and we will get you set up with access to our website, where complete event information is located.

Our dates this year are May 13 - 14, with travel to and from on the 12th and 15th. Rapid City is a scant 400 miles from Denver so it is a very easy days drive.

Please join us if you like. And remember....everyone is welcomed. Not everyone is invited.

First time on the Black Hills Run and SOOOO excited. Actually, we are going to make this a family affair and bring our 12 and 13 year old boys. None of us have ever seen Mt Rushmore so we are pretty excited about getting up to that part of the country. Since we are bringing the boys, we will be staying at the Radisson two blocks from the Alex Johnson. The Alex Johnson does not have a pool and which is critical for the boys. Either way...I look forward to meeting everyone on the rides and during the after hours functions.

There are now over 40

cars registered for this event.

Please note that if you have not already RSVP'd your rooms, the room block closes TODAY. Not that you cannot get one, just that what we set aside is open to the public.

Let us know if you still do not have access to the site. We have a full agenda including Group Pic at Rushmore, Hot Rod Institute visit, and a picture for the local Chamber and Newspaper all lined up.
