USB plug's power is always on?

I plugged in an mp3 player that i plugged into my mini before I started the car, and i noticed my mp3 player already started charing. I was hoping to get a USB thumb drive and just leave it plugged in on the usb port, but the fact that it's always gonna be on, i'm wondering if it's going to cause problems, either to the car, or the live of the thumb drive.

i don't imagine a usb thumbdrive can drain my car batteries, but i just had to ask.

Anyone else leave a usb thumbdrive/mp3 player constantly connected to their mini?

I have a 2011 mini clubman btw.

First off you posted this in the 1st Gen section....

I have a 2010 Clubman and leave my thumb drive in all the time since I bought my car in June... no issues yet.
