Few questions [new owner]

Hi,

I just got an 07 MCS very well equipped. The car is in for service [leaking sunroof and rough idle] and got a 2011 MCS as a loaner. I have a few questions:

1) I have auto dimming mirror but the side mirrors do not dim. Is that normal on all Coopers or maybe did new ones have that implemented?

2) Premium Hi-Fi sounds harsh really high up, not the same as Hi-Fi in my old BMW. I noticed the HK system in the 11 MCS is a lot better. Would I benefit from swapping all the speakers and would it actually work? Also, is HK amp also required?

3) On 11 MCS when Sport mode is on, there is a nice burble on the override. Did previous Minis have that 'active' exhaust?

4) I really like the way new black speedo/radio looks. Is it possible to open them up and darken the inside lettering in both speedometer and tachometer or would I have to replace both in order to get the look?

5) Compared to the 11 MCS, my engine sounds very rough at idle and diesel like. It also makes buzzing noise around 4k rpm. Anyone know what that means [it's not the tach though!]

I greatly appreciate you guys for answering all those questions. Just have a lot of plans for the car and want to get some insight =]

Thanks!

- Paul

Answers to Question #1 and #3.

Auto-dimming side mirrors new option for 2011

MINI brought the burble back for 2011 MCS models with sport button in the on position.

I went from a fan-effing-tastic all custom audio system in my old car, to the HiFi system. I find that the HiFi system is definitely an upgrade from a normal factory system, but still can't handle the volume and clarity and bass response I want.

Thanks a lot!

Does anyone know whether it's possible to open the speedometer and replace the parts inside to get the even increment one, then recalibrate the needle or do I have to get a brand new speedo?

Side mirrors on the 07-10 do not dim.

Yes the HiFi sucks. Check the Audio and NAV section you will get all the details you need to answer all your questions about the HK system and how to up grade it.

Check with Asthetic Creations (in the vendor area) they make over lays that go on the speedos adn tachs to make them what ever color you want.

sounds like you need a tune up but I suspect it will always sound a little different.

Yes, the just the speakers can be replaced with HK as direct bolt-ins. The amp can also be replaced if desired. Try the speakers first.

There is a retrofit kit for the outside dimming mirrors.

Probably a decarbon procedure and/or replace the timing chain tensioner assembly will make the engine sound better.
